Confessions of a girl who went astray
While holding the position of Area Leader, the wife of the Group Leader in the Church, Nguyen Thi Tuyet Mai was taught that everything must only be told to her Prophet, and not told or texted to anyone outside the Church.
When falling into a state of mental crisis and depression due to too many worries about "God's law", having to study the so-called Bible, preaching, worshiping, praying... Mai once had the intention of committing suicide.
Mai said she went to a psychologist for treatment, but did not dare to tell the story of the Church, but only rambled on about a few symptoms such as insomnia and panic. At that time, Mai could not seek help from anyone, and even had to bear the pressure from her family and her husband's family, so her husband was stressed and stressed.
The only thing Mai clung to was prayer. She thought things would get better, but praying and not taking any medicine only made her illness last longer and get worse.
This church is very sophisticated, they do not force but have a way to manipulate psychology. After experiencing the frustrations of being in this organization, Mai missed her singing and MCing job a lot, missed her active and enthusiastic 22 years old, missed the youthfulness that she missed... All were buried with the days participating in the church.
They taught that singing, eating, and playing were worldly pursuits, and that they were cursed by God and would be condemned to the Lake of Fire. Not only did Mai neglect her studies, she also abandoned her passion for singing and the competitions that would have given her the opportunity to advance her career. She could only channel her passion into songs of praise during worship.
Mai and her husband did not get married voluntarily, not out of true love, but were forced to be a couple of officials. Although they were not compatible, they still had to work together, so gradually many conflicts arose between the two.
“I asked people in positions in this organization to resolve the matter, but they always replied that “the Church does not interfere with your family matters,” even though they had previously asked us to get married.
I realize the irresponsibility of the leaders of this Church. What they need is only to achieve the goals of the Church, of themselves, without caring about the difficulties of the members, or if they do, it is just a fake concern on the surface.
When we joined the Church, our family opposed us, our economic situation was difficult, the intensity of work and activities in the Church was too high, so both my husband and I were exhausted, plus the conflicts and disagreements made us very stressed," Mai shared.
Mai became more and more confused, always asking herself what she was doing even though she was in the Church, whether what she was doing was right and proper or not when so many painful events happened. Mai's depression even showed signs of getting worse when her husband used violence on her.
In Mai's memory, this organization taught that wherever you go, you will be protected by God, you don't need to be on guard against anyone, just pray and do exactly what the Church and God teach, and you will be absolutely protected by God.
Mai believed it absolutely and believed that she worshiped and paid 1/10 of her income and it would be fine, so she always went out alone at night. One time, Mai was sexually assaulted by someone. At that time, there was no God to protect her. If Mai had not protected herself at that time, who knows where things would have gone.
After Mai's parents discovered the whole incident, they were in so much pain and were devastated, especially Mai's father. She gave up on committing suicide and thought that she could just live like this so that her father could live in peace. Mai worried that if she died, her father would not be able to live either.
When Mai talked to her husband about leaving the church, instead of being supported, her husband said that he would then divorce her and marry another worker in the organization.
“He told me that marrying me was just an obligation and responsibility, and that he had no romantic feelings for me. He said many heartless things that shocked me.
Abandoned by her husband, no one believed her, her health was too weak and she had no money for medical treatment, and she could not share her problems in the Church with a psychologist, so one day in October 2022, she went to the 8th floor of the apartment building where she lived with the intention of jumping off.
When I put one leg out and was about to jump, my reason returned and I thought: Why do I have to die? I didn't steal, I didn't kill, why do I have to live such a miserable life...? It's not my fault!
A series of questions appeared in my head, I decided to withdraw. Whether I die or not, before I die, I must find out what this Church is like. I will find out again before making a decision", Mai determined.
From that moment on, Mai returned home to her hometown, near her parents and was taken care of by them. Every night, Mai went online to search for information about this organization. Vietnamese news articles were not enough, so Mai read more foreign news articles.
She also went to websites and forums where foreigners discussed; Mai even read articles by foreign experts, psychotherapy experts, and experts on cults related to the Church of God the Mother.
In October 2022, Mai decided to stop and completely cut ties with the organization, blocking the numbers of those in it. From then on, Mai seriously treated her illness, no longer feeling afraid of going to the Lake of Hell or having to hide her story.
“When the doctor heard about my story and condition, he shook his head,” Mai smiled softly.
As an experienced person, Mai realized that the consequences of the Church are not as obvious as murder, but have a hidden and deep impact on each family.
Taking her own situation as an example, Mai said that her parents lost sleep when they found out that she joined the Church of God the Mother. Many times, her parents burst into tears. Mai's mother even said that if she had not joined that Church, she would not have wasted her life like this.
“Parents must be very patient and alert on the journey to get their children out of the Church. They need to be there to encourage, love, and clear their minds, and answer questions that have been in their children’s minds for a long time.
Parents should not use the whip on their children in this situation because if they do, they will never understand love and will fall deeper into the Church because that Church understands human psychology and always says sweet words. Children will think that only God loves them.
I can't 100% confirm that it helps you leave the Church, but it is an effective way, just like my parents persevered with me," Mai's voice trembled as she mentioned how hard it was for her parents to see their children fall into the "black mud".
In Mai's college class of 6 people who followed the Church, 5 of them were able to leave, but 1 of them remained stubborn. When Mai texted, trying to point out that this was a form of spiritual business to bring her friend back to reality, this person brushed it off and even told everyone that Mai had a mental illness.
Mai sadly continued to share that every time a member leaves the Church, exposing the truth and the dark corners of the Church, they have a response saying that this member is possessed by a demon, causing the Saints to be afraid and not dare to approach, even those who used to be close to them.
“That is a way to isolate information, isolate the "Saints" in the Church. Now that I have left this organization, I have a multi-dimensional perspective, reflecting back, but the Church isolates people like me so that people in the Church fear and consider us as demons ,” Mai confided.
Mai said she wanted to share her story with the press because she wanted many people, including those inside the Church and those outside, to know the nature of the Church of God the Mother.
“I believe in the press. If I speak out alone, it won’t have any impact, but when the press speaks out, more people will believe it. I don’t believe in the Apocalypse anymore.
Whether God exists or whether there is spirituality, I dare not confirm, but I am certain that the Church of God the Mother is not the true Church. The true Church must step out into the light to share information, to verify together, but it always operates secretly, avoiding the authorities," Mai said.
