Recently, Cam Pha Regional General Hospital (Quang Ninh) received baby H.D. (12 months old, residing in Phu Tho ) in a state of abdominal pain, screaming, vomiting and unable to defecate.
Abdominal ultrasound showed an image of ileocecal intussusception, with a 2x2cm mass. Doctors promptly removed the intussusception under general anesthesia. After the intervention, the baby recovered quickly, his abdomen was soft, and his bowel movements returned to normal.
According to Dr. Nguyen Minh Duc, Department of Surgery, intussusception occurs when a segment of the intestine slides into the adjacent segment, causing digestive obstruction. Children often show symptoms of abdominal pain, crying a lot, vomiting, abdominal distension or bloody and mucus-filled stools. Parents should absolutely not self-treat at home but should take their children to the hospital immediately if they suspect otherwise.
The hospital recommends: early detection and timely intervention are the key to saving children's lives, because every passing minute affects the lives and quality of life of children.
