4 years in prison for driving a car that killed 2 people and injured 1 soldier

On December 27, the Military Court of Military Region 9 sentenced defendant Ngo Qui Trieu (39 years old, residing in Moc Hoa district, Long An province) to 4 years in prison for the crime of "Violating regulations on road traffic participation".

According to the indictment, at around 4:50 p.m. on March 6, Trieu was driving a pickup truck 62C-176.24 on National Highway 80 from Hon Dat District to Rach Gia City (Kien Giang). When reaching the section in Binh Thuan Hamlet, Binh Son Commune, Hon Dat District, Trieu accelerated to the left side of the road to overtake a motorbike traveling in the same direction ahead and collided with a motorbike 68D1-629.51 driven by Mr. VVC (a soldier working at the Hon Dat District Military Command) traveling in the opposite direction.

Not stopping there, Trieu's car continued to collide head-on with a motorbike 68D1-502.44 driven by Ch.T. (24 years old, residing in Hon Dat district) carrying Ms. NTNT (22 years old, residing in the same district) who was running behind Mr. C's car. The accident caused Ms. NTNT to die on the spot, Ch.T. was seriously injured and died on March 8. The VVC soldier suffered multiple injuries and had to have his left leg amputated up to the upper third, with a body injury rate of 65% at the time of assessment.

In court, Ngo Qui Trieu confessed to all his crimes. Trieu drove the car without a driver's license, drove on the wrong side of the road, causing a fatal accident. The defendant and his family voluntarily compensated the victims for the damage and resolved the consequences with a total amount of 760 million VND.
