On the morning of July 16, Ms. Tran Thi Yen Oanh, Vice Chairwoman of the People's Committee of An Son Commune (in Nam Du archipelago, Kien Giang) said that over the past 3 days, the shipping companies on the Nam Du - Rach Gia route have temporarily stopped operating due to bad weather, causing a number of tourist groups to be stranded on the island.
The ship has been operating again since 10:30 this morning. All stranded passengers will be able to return to the mainland today.
An Son island commune belongs to Nam Du archipelago, located southeast of Phu Quoc island, 115km from Rach Gia coast. Travel time from the island commune to the mainland is from 2-5 hours, depending on the starting point.
To support tourists in recent days, many motels and hotels on the island have proactively reduced room rates by 30-50%, some even allowing guests to use the kitchen and rice for free.
In Phu Quoc, life on the island has returned to normal as the Phu Quoc - Ha Tien ferry route resumed operations on July 15.
Statistics from local authorities show that the impact of the tropical depression in recent days has caused localized flooding, affecting 139 households in Cua Duong commune (Phu Quoc city). Estimated property damage is over 130 million VND.
