French engineer behind the success of the Eiffel Tower, Statue of Liberty
Gustave Eiffel was a talented architect who was the "author" of many world-famous works, including the Eiffel Tower (France) and the Statue of Liberty (USA).

French engineer Gustave Eiffel is considered one of the greatest architects of all time. He is the "author" of many world- famous architectural works. Of which, the two most well-known works are: Eiffel Tower (France), Statue of Liberty (USA). Photo: Wikimedia Commons. When learning about the life of engineer Gustave, many people are surprised. Born in 1832 in Dijon, France, he was never the most disciplined student at school. Thanks to the guidance of history and literature teachers as well as his uncle Jean-Baptiste Mollerat, engineer Gustave began to take his studies more seriously. Gustave studied at the École Centrale des Arts et Manufactures in Paris and graduated in 1855, majoring in chemistry. He initially wanted to work in his uncle's workshop in Dijon, but that didn't work out. Photo: toureiffel.paris. Instead, Gustave began working as a secretary for railway engineer Charles Nepveu. When Nepveu's company ran into serious financial difficulties, Gustave continued to work for Nepveu, even though he was not paid commensurate with his abilities. Photo: toureiffel.paris. Soon after, with the help of engineer Nepveu, Gustave got a new job designing bridges for the Saint Germaine railway. In his early 20s, Gustave was in charge of the construction of the Bordeaux Bridge. Although he did not design the project, he was responsible for planning its execution and directing the workers on how to proceed. As a result, after the project was successfully completed, he was appointed chief engineer of Compagnie Belge. Photo: thecollector.com. In 1866, engineer Gustave set up his own business as an independent builder. In 1868, he teamed up with Théophile Seyrig to form the company Eiffel et Cie. The company won several important projects, including the Budapest Nyugati railway station in Hungary and the Maria Pia Bridge over the Douro River in Portugal. Photo: wonders-of-the-world.net. In the following years, engineer Gustave undertook many new projects, including two "huge" works in his career: the design of the Eiffel Tower (France) and the design of the giant iron frame and the Statue of Liberty (USA).
