Every year, World Intellectual Property Day on April 26 is an opportunity for the international community to recognize, evaluate and honor the achievements that the intellectual property (IP) system brings in promoting innovation, creativity and cultural and artistic development. In 2025, with the global message "Intellectual Property and Music: Feel the Rhythm of IP", the theme emphasizes the role of music - a core cultural industry in the development of the creative economy and the IP system is the "launching pad" for music to spread and develop sustainably, especially in the digital age. In addition, the message also aims to honor the contributions of creators, inventors and entrepreneurs who have pushed the boundaries of innovation and creativity to create music that connects people together, evokes strong emotions, promotes change and inspires a creative and innovative future.

According to WIPO statistics on the size and economic impact of the creative industries (CCls) globally, this sector generates about 2.25 trillion USD per year, contributing to the economy and employing more than 30 million people worldwide. In 2022, global creative services exports will reach 1.4 trillion USD, up 29% compared to 2017. Notably, the total income of global creators will increase by 7.6% in 2023, setting a new record.
In the context of Vietnam promoting digital transformation and comprehensive international integration, the creative economy has become a new growth driver, with music and art also considered an important cultural industry.
Intellectual Property – The Legal Weapon to Protect Music and Creators
Nowadays, the development of digital platforms has created new opportunities for young artists, musicians, and music producers to bring their works to the public faster, more effectively, and with more economic value. However, along with that are challenges of copyright infringement, illegal copying, and illegal profiteering from digital platforms.

In the IP system, copyright and related rights are important legal tools to: Protect musical works from unauthorized use; Ensure fair income for artists, producers, and publishers; Encourage investment in the creation, production and distribution of copyrighted content.
Vietnam has joined 08 international treaties on copyright and related rights such as the Berne Convention, WCT, WPPT, Marrakesh, TRIPS Agreement, etc. and many free trade agreements such as CPTPP, EVFTA, RCEP, etc. and is continuing to amend and improve the law to keep up with new trends. The revised Law on Intellectual Property in 2022 and its implementing documents have created a stronger legal corridor in handling violations and protecting copyright and related rights, including in the music field.
