On the morning of April 12, in Thuong Yen Cong commune, Uong Bi city, the inauguration ceremony of the Temple of Heroic Martyrs of Regiment 5 Yen Tu was held; the Decision to rank the provincial historical relic "Historical relic site of Regiment 5 Yen Tu" was announced.
Attending the ceremony were comrades: General Pham Van Tra, former member of the Politburo, former Minister of National Defense; Ngo Van Du, former member of the Politburo, former Chairman of the Central Inspection Commission. On the side of Quang Ninh province, there were comrades: Trinh Thi Minh Thanh, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairwoman of the Provincial People's Council; Nguyen Thi Hanh, Vice Chairwoman of the Provincial People's Committee; Nguyen Thi Thu Ha, Deputy Head of the Provincial National Assembly Delegation.

In a solemn and sacred atmosphere, the delegates respectfully offered incense to commemorate the heroic martyrs, and reviewed the heroic and glorious history of the 5th Yen Tu Regiment. During the fiercest years of the resistance war against the US, on June 15, 1967, in the sacred land of Yen Tu, the 5th Regiment was established to carry out the task of training troops to support the battlefields. In just 8 years, the Regiment trained 113 battalions with over 72,000 officers and soldiers from the 5 provinces of Quang Ninh, Hai Phong, Hai Duong, Thai Binh, and Hung Yen. It was this force that contributed greatly to the great victory of the Spring of 1975, liberating the South and unifying the country.
The two battalions of Cat Bi and Hai Da were awarded the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces. Over 20,000 soldiers heroically sacrificed their lives, many of whom have yet to be buried. The Red Cross Association - Veterans of the 5th Yen Tu Regiment had the idea of building a memorial right at the place where the Regiment was stationed in the past, now Nam Mau village, Thuong Yen Cong commune.
With the attention and direction of the Provincial Party Committee, People's Council, and People's Committee of Quang Ninh province, Uong Bi city has allocated 2.2 hectares of land in Nam Mau village, Thuong Yen Cong commune to build a historical memorial site. After 8 years of construction from socialized sources, the project items have been completed. In particular, the Temple consists of 3 buildings with an area of 600m2, with a space to worship President Ho Chi Minh, General Vo Nguyen Giap; separate altars for heroic martyrs of 5 provinces and cities, Cat Bi Battalion, Hai Da Battalion. In addition to the Temple, in the project area there are also Ho Quoc Pagoda, Ancestral Temple, Mau Temple... The relic site is a meaningful work that deeply demonstrates the nation's morality of remembering the source of water when drinking, a continuation of the worldly ideology of Truc Lam Yen Tu Buddhism.
Speaking at the ceremony, Comrade Nguyen Thi Hanh, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, emphasized: The recognition of the Yen Tu Regiment 5 historical relic site by the Provincial People's Committee as a provincial historical relic site and a provincial tourist destination is an honor and pride for the Party Committee, government and people of all ethnic groups in the city; is a worthy recognition by all levels and sectors of the province for the great historical, cultural and revolutionary values of the relic site - a place that marks a period of arduous, heroic and resilient fighting of officers and soldiers of the Yen Tu Regiment 5. At the same time, it places a great responsibility on the local government and people in preserving, embellishing and promoting the value of the relic.
In the coming time, Uong Bi City will continue to closely coordinate with relevant departments, branches, sectors and units to effectively preserve, restore and promote the historical value of the relic in a sustainable manner. The city will promote propaganda and education on revolutionary traditions for the younger generation; connect cultural - spiritual - ecological tourist attractions in the Yen Tu area to form unique, attractive and in-depth tours and routes. Along with that, closely coordinate, support and create conditions for the Red Cross - Veterans Association of Regiment 5 Yen Tu, the management board of the relic site... to mobilize resources to focus on investing, upgrading and completing construction items, infrastructure and techniques in the detailed planning approved by the Provincial People's Committee, as well as service works to serve tourists in the coming time.
