Inauguration of the 'Sunshine House' model to support women and girls suffering from violence in An Giang province

On the morning of August 19, the Department of Health of An Giang province coordinated with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) to organize the inauguration ceremony of the model.

Delegates performed the ribbon cutting ceremony to inaugurate "An Giang Sunshine House".

An Giang is one of the few localities selected by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) to implement the "Sunshine House" model - a model to support women and girls who are victims of violence in An Giang province, implemented at the An Giang Social Protection Center (Long Xuyen ward, An Giang province), from December 2024 to December 2026, with a total budget of 130,000 USD, sponsored by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), to protect women and girls who are vulnerable to gender-based violence.

Provincial leaders and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) visited "An Giang Sunshine House".

The project aims to promote gender equality, prevent and respond to gender-based violence and support survivors of violence to access essential and quality integrated services.

It is expected that by 2026, 100 women and girls will access and use the services of "Sunshine House"; 60 service providers will receive capacity building training; 1,000 people will have access to information of "Sunshine House"...

Vice Chairwoman of An Giang Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Thi Minh Thuy spoke at the inauguration ceremony of "An Giang Sunshine House".

Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Chairwoman of An Giang Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Thi Minh Thuy emphasized: Putting the "Sunshine House" model into operation is not only a concretization of the Party and State's policies and guidelines on gender equality, protecting the legitimate rights and interests of women and children, but also a testament to the attention and efforts of all levels, sectors, organizations and the community in building a safe, humane and violence-free society.

With the function of being a place to receive, advise, provide medical care, legal support, psychological support and create conditions for reintegration into the community, "Sunshine House" will become a reliable support, timely shelter and help for women and girls who unfortunately fall into difficult circumstances.

After the inauguration ceremony, An Giang Department of Health coordinated with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) to organize the launching ceremony of "An Giang Sunshine House"; consultative meeting, discussing the construction of a coordination mechanism to transfer support to women and girls who are victims of violence in An Giang province.

Mr. Matthew David Jackson - UNFPA Representative in Vietnam and Deputy Director of An Giang Department of Health Tran Quoc Tuan signed the handover of "Anh Duong House" to An Giang province.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, Deputy Director of the Department of Youth Affairs and Gender Equality (Ministry of Home Affairs) Luong Thi Hai Anh emphasized: An Giang is the 6th province nationwide, the first province in the Mekong Delta to launch the model, with the desire to promote effectiveness, raise people's awareness in preventing and combating gender-based violence, to move towards a violence-free society, contributing to the United Nations' goal of "leaving no one behind".
