Introduction to the Temple of Revelation located in the Temple of Literature - Imperial Academy

Khai Thanh Temple is a special destination with deep spiritual and historical cultural values, located deep at the end of the Temple of Literature - Quoc Tu Giam complex. To get here, visitors can follow two small brick-paved paths on the left and right sides from Dai Thanh Mon, or go through Tam Quan gate behind the Upper Palace.

This is the place of worship of Confucius's parents - Mr. Thuc Luong Ngoc and Mrs. Nhan Thi - who are revered as the roots of Confucianism. The temple grounds are clearly divided into two parts with a spacious front yard divided in two by a brick-paved path leading straight to the central shrine.

Although the current architecture has been restored, the temple still retains its traditional layout with Ta Vu, Huu Vu and the solemn main hall. Previously, this place used to be the Thai Hoc area, the training center of the Imperial Academy with about 150 rooms for students - equivalent to the dormitory area today. Unfortunately, the entire old architecture was destroyed in 1946 during the cannon attack of the French colonialists, leaving no trace of the past in the area.

Today, Khai Thanh Temple has been restored on a grand scale, in harmony with the overall Temple of Literature. The roof is covered with two layers of tiles, the column system is carefully treated against moisture with lead plates placed under the stone foundations. The yard is paved with square bricks, surrounded by green stone curbs, all creating a solemn space, durable over time. Many valuable antiques are still preserved here, contributing to enriching the heritage of Thang Long, a thousand years of culture.
