Israel has called on the UN Security Council to condemn Iran's recent attack on Israel and to list Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization, sources said.

According to the announcement of the UN Global Communications Agency, the meeting is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. (local time, 8:00 p.m. GMT, or 3:00 p.m. Vietnam time on April 14).

Meanwhile, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said Beijing expressed “deep concern” over Iran’s missile and drone attacks on Israel, and called on relevant parties to remain calm and exercise restraint to avoid further escalation of the situation.

According to AFP news agency, on April 13, US President Joe Biden announced that his country's forces had helped take down "nearly all" of the drones and missiles launched by Iran into Israel, adding that he reaffirmed his "unwavering" support for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

In a statement, President Biden said he would convene G7 leaders on April 14 to coordinate a “unified diplomatic response” to Iran’s “brazen” attack. “Iran – and its proxies operating in Yemen, Syria and Iraq – have launched an unprecedented airstrike against military facilities in Israel. I condemn these attacks in the strongest possible terms,” he said.

Mr Biden said he had ordered the deployment of US military aircraft and a ballistic missile defence destroyer to the Middle East in recent days, as the threat from Iran to a key US ally became clear.

However, in a phone call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the US leader also noted that Washington would oppose any Israeli counterattack against Iran.
