Google CEO Sundar Pichai has confirmed plans to integrate its AI assistant Gemini into cars and smartwatches. This will be done through the Android Auto platform for cars and the WearOS operating system on wearable devices.
Additionally, he also mentioned that tablets and headphones will be upgraded from Google Assistant to Gemini in late 2025.
Gemini will become an AI assistant on devices in the Google ecosystem |
"We're upgrading the Google Assistant on mobile to Gemini, and later this year we'll upgrade it for tablets, cars, and connected devices like headphones and watches," Pichai said during Alphabet's (Google's parent company) Q1 financial report.
Google has not provided any specific information about the roadmap or how Gemini will operate on these platforms. However, the new move is considered a reasonable and predictable step.
Google has also invested a significant amount of time and resources into developing Gemini, so it makes sense that it would bring this AI technology to every device and software ecosystem it manages.
However, as is typical for Google product announcements, no specific timeframe has been given beyond the generic phrase “later this year,” a fairly common phrase the search giant uses when talking about future plans.
