Practical concern

Ms. Nguyen Thi Tinh, 46 years old (in Phu Do ward, Nam Tu Liem district, Hanoi), is currently a worker at Hanoi Urban Environment One Member Co., Ltd., Cau Dien branch (URENCO 7). Every day, she works as a garbage collector on Nguyen Van Giap street, Cau Dien, mainly from 4pm to 11-12pm.

Ms. Tinh shared: “As an environmental worker, we have to work in a toxic dusty environment, exposed to wastewater, garbage, sewers, etc. But we cherish this job, always aware of our responsibility to complete the assigned tasks well. At the company, I am provided with personal protective equipment when working, such as: General protective clothing; hats, sun-proof hats; dust masks; gloves, rubber boots; raincoats; reflective vests, soap, etc. I myself have been trained many times on occupational safety and hygiene. I find it very useful.”

As for Ms. Vuong Thi Hoi (Agricultural Service Center of Thach That District), the attention of authorities at all levels to workers in difficult circumstances is a great encouragement. “I am a civil servant, my husband is a freelancer. Of my 3 children, one is born blind, now 8 years old, studying at the Center for the Blind with Dexterous Hands (Hai Ba Trung District). Every week, the family has to arrange at least a few times to take the child to school. My husband and I always receive attention from localities and units, especially during Workers' Month 2025”.

These are two of thousands of workers and laborers who received support during the Month of Action on Occupational Safety and Hygiene and Workers' Month 2025. More than monetary value, these gifts are timely recognition and encouragement, affirming the care and concern of the unit's leaders and the community for the workers.

Reduce work accidents

Along with gifts and financial support for workers and their families during Workers' Month 2025, all levels, sectors and units always focus on implementing the theme of the Month of Action on occupational safety and hygiene in 2025: "Strengthening assessment, identifying hazards and risks and proactively implementing measures to ensure occupational safety and hygiene at the workplace".

Sharing the practical experience of a typical unit that does well in occupational safety and hygiene, Deputy Director in charge of technology of Ba Dinh Power Company (Hanoi Power Corporation) Nguyen Ngoc Phu said: “Our company always focuses on doing a good job of propaganda, training and implementing the construction of a safe, friendly, efficient and sustainable working environment. In which, the human factor is decisive, including compliance with current procedures, regulations and labor discipline when participating in performing work at the site. Organizing training and drills on fire fighting plans, occupational accident rescue plans and incident handling, clearly defining the responsibility regime in occupational safety and hygiene work”.

According to Chu Thi Hanh, Deputy Director of the Department of Employment (Ministry of Home Affairs), if we proactively and effectively implement occupational safety and hygiene, occupational accidents will certainly decrease, saving social costs and ensuring the health of workers so that they can work long-term and have stable and sustainable income. Currently, the task of reducing occupational accidents is not easy, requiring raising awareness and determination to act from each of us.

In fact, in recent years, many employers have not paid attention to implementing legal regulations on risk management and control. Many workers have not been trained in occupational safety and hygiene, and lack knowledge and skills to work safely.

To reduce work-related accidents, according to Deputy Head of the Department of Policy, Law and Labor Relations (Vietnam General Confederation of Labor) Ho Thi Kim Ngan, authorities at all levels need to promote the implementation of labor safety and hygiene at the local level, and allocate human and financial resources in the context of restructuring the organization and apparatus of the political system. In particular, it is necessary to pay attention to areas without labor relations, and to disseminate information to production households, farms, fishermen, and industries with high risks such as mining, construction and production of construction materials, mechanics, electricity, etc. At the same time, it is necessary to focus on safety and hygiene at the workplace and in the supply chain. This is also one of the best ways to take care of workers.
