On August 27, in Hanoi, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front held a meeting of the Preliminary Council for the 16th "For the Cause of Great National Unity" Press Award 2023-2024. The award was organized by the Standing Committee of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front in coordination with the Vietnam Journalists Association.

The award was launched by the Standing Committee of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front on the occasion of the 98th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day (June 21, 1925 - June 21, 2023). After 2 years of organizing and implementing the award, as of July 31, 2024, there were 2,135 valid entries in 5 categories: print newspaper, electronic newspaper, radio, television and press photo from over 100 central and local press agencies participating.

Of which, the printed newspaper category has 769 articles from 81 press agencies at the central and local levels, such as Dai Doan Ket Newspaper, Nhan Dan Newspaper, Cong An Nhan Dan Newspaper, Quan Doi Nhan Dan Newspaper, Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper, Mat Tran Magazine, Can Tho Newspaper, Sai Gon Giai Phong Newspaper, Cong An Ho Chi Minh City Newspaper...

The electronic newspaper category has 865 articles from 97 press agencies, the television category has 263 articles from 39 media agencies, the radio category has 176 articles from 23 media agencies. In addition, the photojournalism category has 62 works (with 507 photos) including photo reports and single photos from 20 press agencies.

It is expected that this year there will be 81 prizes. Of which, 1 special prize, 5 A prizes, 14 B prizes, 29 C prizes, and 32 consolation prizes.
