The largest airport in the North
Started on August 19, Gia Binh International Airport project (Gia Binh commune, Bac Ninh province) and the connecting route to Hanoi capital have a scale of more than 1,964 hectares, invested according to 5-star standards, aiming to become one of the 10 most modern airports in the world .
Gia Binh Airport is expected to be larger than Noi Bai Airport and Tan Son Nhat Airport (about 1,500 hectares), second only to Long Thanh Airport (5,000 hectares).
The project has a designed capacity of up to 50 million passengers/year. This will be a new aviation gateway, sharing pressure with Noi Bai airport (Hanoi) and expanding international connections for the entire key economic region of the North.
Previously, the Ministry of Construction approved the adjustment of the Gia Binh International Airport Planning for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050. Accordingly, Gia Binh airport has the location and function of an international airport, shared for civil, security and defense purposes.

Perspective of Gia Binh airport.
The planning target for the 2021-2030 period is a 4E airport (according to the standard code of the International Civil Aviation Organization - ICAO) with a capacity of about 30 million passengers/year and 1.6 million tons of cargo/year; operating aircraft types B777, B787, A350, A321 and other special and specialized aircraft.
In the period 2021-2030, the airport is planned to have an aircraft parking lot in the passenger terminal and cargo terminal area to accommodate about 81 parking positions. Vision to 2050, the aircraft parking lot around the passenger terminal and cargo terminal area will be expanded to accommodate about 123 parking positions; reserve for expansion when needed.
In addition, the terminal serving private aircraft - VIP terminal is planned in the southwest area of the passenger terminal, south of the private aircraft parking area; the land area is about more than 5 hectares.
The passenger terminal for the 2021-2030 period is planned to the northeast of the VIP terminal with a capacity of about 30 million passengers/year, with a vision to 2050 to be expanded to meet a capacity of about 50 million passengers/year.
The cargo terminal is planned in the area east of the passenger terminal, meeting the capacity of about 1.6 million tons of cargo/year in the period of 2021-2030; with a vision to 2050, it will be expanded to meet the capacity of about 2.5 million tons/year.
Passenger Terminal T2 - Cat Bi International Airport
Also on this occasion of August 19, ACV will start construction of Terminal T2 of Cat Bi Airport (Hai Phong) with 2 elevations, total floor area of 23,200 m², investment capital of nearly 2,700 billion VND. The terminal is connected to the aircraft parking area by 4 passenger bridges, including 3 code C bridges, one double bridge to operate one code E aircraft or 2 code C aircraft at the same time. After completion, the design capacity is expected to meet 5 million passengers/year and can be expanded to 10 million passengers/year by 2030.

Currently, the passenger traffic through Terminal T1 of Cat Bi airport has far exceeded the initial design capacity of 2 million passengers/year, and is being studied for upgrading and expanding to 3 million passengers/year. Thus, it is expected that by 2030, Cat Bi international airport will serve 13 million passengers/year. At the same time, this airport also focuses on improving its cargo transportation capacity.
In November 2024, Cat Bi airport started construction of the cargo terminal, with a total investment of 724 billion VND, a capacity of 100,000 tons of cargo/year and the ability to expand to 250,000 tons of cargo/year, expected to be put into operation in January 2026.
Ca Mau airport expansion
The project to expand and upgrade Ca Mau Airport will also start construction on August 19.
The project to upgrade and expand Ca Mau Airport has been approved by the Prime Minister in accordance with Decision No. 1188/QD-TTg dated October 15, 2024, with the goal of serving the exploitation of A320, A321 and equivalent aircraft. Vietnam Airports Corporation (ACV) is the investor, using legal capital sources, with a total investment of about 2,400 billion VND.
The expansion investment aims to meet the increasing demand for passenger and cargo transportation, while promoting socio-economic development, tourism and attracting investment for the Mekong Delta region.

The project to expand and upgrade Ca Mau Airport will also start construction on August 19.
Regarding technical infrastructure, the aircraft parking area for the 2021-2030 period is planned to be located south of the runway, accommodating about 4 parking positions. By 2050, the parking area will be expanded to the north, in sync with the new civil aviation area, accommodating about 10 parking positions, and at the same time, there will be a reserve land fund for expansion when necessary.
The existing passenger terminal will be expanded in the period up to 2030, ensuring the capacity to serve 1 million passengers/year. Regarding goods, in the period 2021 - 2030, a warehouse will be planned to the west of the terminal, near the existing aircraft parking lot, with a capacity of about 1,000 tons/year.
Ca Mau Airport is expected to become a strategic connection point in the air traffic network of the Mekong Delta region and the whole country.
