Students continuously fight, school sets up council to discipline principal

On October 9, speaking to reporters, Mr. Vo Huu Tran, Principal of Trung Hieu Secondary School (Vung Liem District, Vinh Long Province), said that regarding the case of 9 8th grade students of the school using chairs and helmets to beat their friends and film a clip, the district Department of Education and Training has reported.

According to the report, on September 21, student TTL pretended to fall on the back of his classmate NHN. Afterwards, N. went home and told his grandmother that L. hurt him. N.'s grandmother reported it to L.'s family and the student was punished by the family.

On September 23, L. did not participate but called on a group of classmates to beat N. The group saw N. sitting in the classroom so they rushed in and used their hands, feet, brooms, helmets, and plastic chairs to beat him. N. was beaten but did not dare to resist.

The incident happened with many students witnessing and cheering the fight. The students did not report it to the school and a female student used her phone to record the incident.

N. was taken to the hospital, where the doctor diagnosed soft tissue injuries on the head, swelling in both arms, a cut on the left hand, back pain, and was treated as prescribed by the doctor.

After that, Trung Hieu Secondary School established a Disciplinary Council and unanimously proposed that the principal issue a disciplinary decision in the form of a one-year suspension for the eight students who beat their friend and a two-week suspension for the student who filmed the clip. The students who stood by and watched and did not report or help their friends stop them were criticized in front of the whole school and had their conduct grade lowered by one level.

In addition, according to the Department of Education and Training of Vung Liem district, the department will coordinate with the Department of Internal Affairs to establish a disciplinary council for Mr. Vo Huu Tran and 2 teachers.

The reason is that in the last 2 school years, Trung Hieu Secondary School has had many incidents of students fighting, causing injuries to students, teachers and staff. The Vice Principal and teachers have repeatedly proposed to handle the violations, but the Principal has no solution and has not handled the situation thoroughly.

Regarding the incident where a group of students fought and filmed the clip, Mr. Tran did not promptly handle it, report it to leaders at all levels, and did not promptly notify the families of the beaten students to take support measures.
