Nguyen Thanh Huyen, a 12th grade student at Cao Ba Quat High School (Hanoi) shared that she plans to pursue the goal of being admitted to the economics major at one of the following universities: Foreign Trade University, National Economics University, etc.
Huyen decided to find out early the admission methods of her favorite schools to have thorough preparation in terms of conditions.
Up to this point, the female student has obtained IELTS and HSK foreign language certificates. In addition, she is also accelerating her review to prepare for the competency assessment exam and high school graduation exam.
“I am quite worried about this year’s exam because the math test has many practical questions. The literature test may not use materials other than textbooks. Since the new regulation on extra classes was applied, each subject cannot be studied more than 2 periods/week at school, so I still have to find extra classes at centers,” Thanh Huyen shared.
Hoang Quoc Trong, a 12A3 student at this school, also said that he found it difficult to access the 2018 General Education Program. While previous high school graduates had many documents and practice tests to review, this year's 12th grade students have more limited documents.

In more than 2 months, more than 1 million students will take the 2025 High School Graduation Exam. |
Trong believes that the new general education program is like a double-edged sword because new textbooks and new teaching methods help students approach knowledge in a more interesting way, with more practical lessons, but also make students feel more worried and pressured.
“I am worried because this is the first year of taking the exam under the new program. What will the exam be like and how difficult will it be? I also often ask myself whether the form and level of review are enough or not, so my mentality is not stable,” Trong said.
Nguyen Viet Tung, a 12th grade student at another high school in Hanoi, also shared his feelings. The closer the exam gets, the more nervous and worried he becomes.
“In addition to registering for 4 high school graduation exam review courses at school taught by teachers for free, I also take 4 extra classes at the center, participate in online classes, and review with friends at home. I don’t have much time to sleep or rest, but I still tell myself to try my best because this is the time when I need to focus all my efforts to achieve the best results,” Tung said.
This year, Tung aims to enter the Diplomatic Academy. In addition to studying for the graduation exam, he also registered to take the National University's aptitude test to have more grounds for admission.
Teachers are very supportive
Mr. Hoang Duc Thuan, Principal of Cao Ba Quat High School (Hanoi) said that after Circular 29 took effect, the school disseminated the regulations to parents and students. Then, it organized for students to register for review sessions to be placed in classes according to regulations, each subject no more than 2 periods/week and no fee was charged.
With this year's exam, parents and students cannot help but feel anxious, but the school has encouraged teachers to be responsible, dedicated to reviewing, supporting in class, and correcting students' work so that they can achieve the best exam results.

Students of Cao Ba Quat High School (Hanoi) "surrounded" university representatives to clarify this year's enrollment information. |
The 2025 High School Graduation Exam has many new points. The school organized a program of Admissions and Career Counseling Day, in which representatives of the Ministry of Education and Training and dozens of universities were invited to share information about exams and career choices for parents and students to understand.
Regarding learning methods, according to Mr. Thuan, at this time students need to have personal discipline and high concentration, dividing study time reasonably for each subject to achieve the highest efficiency. Instead of worrying, the important thing is that students need to stay calm, take advantage of the "golden" time to review, and maintain a stable mentality before the exam.
Mr. Nguyen Quoc Binh, Principal of Luong The Vinh Secondary and High School, said that this year's 12th grade students have only had 3 years of implementing the 2018 General Education Program. Before that, primary and secondary school students still studied according to the 2006 General Education Program. They study the new program along with innovative teaching and assessment methods with old learning methods and old thinking, so there are still limitations and difficulties in meeting the requirements of innovation in the program as well as the exam questions.
According to Mr. Binh, schools and teachers have had plans to teach, review and support students since the beginning of the school year to achieve the best results. With changes in exams, teachers will continue to accompany students, so they need to stay calm, confident, review knowledge firmly, avoid stress and anxiety that will affect learning efficiency.
Well-founded concern
The quality survey results announced by the Hanoi Department of Education and Training in early April 2024 "alarmed" schools that if they do not teach and strengthen review for students seriously, many students will be at risk of failing to graduate.
Because the number of exams of students in the group at risk of failing the graduation exam in the whole city with scores below 3 points is nearly 32,000 (accounting for nearly 7%); the number of exams with 0 to 1 points is nearly 5,000 (more than 1%).
In addition, the number of exams with the highest average score was in the range of 6-7 points, accounting for nearly 21% and the percentage of students with high scores was low. The Hanoi Department of Education and Training said that the survey accurately reflected the actual quality of education and this year's results were lower than last year, and at the same time required schools to have solutions to support each group of students to improve their learning quality, moving towards the exam.
Dr. Nguyen Manh Hung, chief specialist of the Department of Higher Education (Ministry of Education and Training), shared that this year's exam method, except for the Literature subject, which is tested in essay form, the remaining subjects are tested in multiple-choice form to ensure fairness and objectivity for candidates.
The highly differentiated exam aims to ensure two goals: graduation and admission to colleges and universities. The Ministry of Education and Training has made adjustments to the admission regulations to ensure fairness and convenience for candidates.
The 2025 High School Graduation Exam will be held simultaneously in provinces/cities nationwide on June 26-27 with more than 1 million candidates taking the exam. This year is the first year students will take the exam according to the 2018 General Education Program. The Ministry of Education and Training has changed the exam method, in which each candidate will take 4 subjects including Math, Literature and 2 elective subjects.
