Launched in 2017, the anti-mosquito odor-blocking manhole of SiGen Company Limited (headquartered in Vung Tau City, Ba Ria - Vung Tau Province) solves environmental problems arising from the urban drainage system.
Frustration from the manhole in front of the house
Leaving his civil servant position, Mr. Ho Thai Binh and his father started a business with a project of manholes to prevent odors and prevent mosquitoes. The first version was born 10 years ago, because at that time, Mr. Ho Viet Ve - Mr. Binh's father - was very upset with the stench from the manhole in front of the house.
"At that time, my father had another job, I was still in high school, so I only contacted businesses operating in this field to donate solutions with the thought of how to solve the pollution problem. I wanted to give it away but it was quite difficult to find a recipient. There were places that accepted it but even if the quantity was quite small, it would not be enough," Mr. Binh recalled.
It was not until 2017 that the environmental issue became more pressing, Mr. Ve decided to retire early, and Mr. Binh quit his job. The father and son devoted all their energy to the SiGen startup project.
Manholes currently operate on the principle of blocking odors with water, which makes it easier for mosquitoes and other harmful insects to breed and develop. When the temperature is high and the sun is hot for a long time, the amount of water used to block odors quickly evaporates, making the manholes no longer able to block odors.
Not to mention that manholes often do not meet national technical standards on drainage infrastructure, causing water to not drain in time and causing flooding.

To overcome these disadvantages, SiGen has launched a product of water collection pit to prevent odor and prevent mosquitoes using a fully automatic odor-blocking device, independent of climate and weather. At the same time, the product has the ability to drain water quickly during heavy rain, eliminating the breeding and development environment of mosquitoes.
With the advantage of being easy to install and use, this product is capable of renovating all existing manholes, providing high economic efficiency with a cost 8-20% lower than similar manholes. Not to mention the installation cost is 67% lower than similar products and there is no additional mosquito extermination fee.
Will launch more new products
Currently, there are about 6,000 SiGen manholes installed in 6 localities and have initially proven effective. However, Mr. Binh himself feels that because the product is new, more evidence is needed to gain trust from customers and the market.
"We are working with scientific organizations in a number of localities to share results and fund pilot implementation in each locality so that the government and people can evaluate the actual use process," the young deputy director informed.
In the market, SiGen is ready to compete by providing benefits, quality products and cost optimization. This anti-mosquito odor-blocking manhole system also improves noise and anti-theft, is convenient to place in alleys as well as helps reduce installation, dredging and maintenance time with the motto "continuously innovating to serve the community".
The company will bring the product to more localities, and at the same time improve the product with the aim of solving the existing environmental problems of the existing urban drainage system.
