VTV Binh Dien Long An is the third Vietnamese women's volleyball club to enter the final of the Asian Women's Club Volleyball Championship - AVC Women's Club Championship. This is also the third consecutive time that Vietnamese teams have achieved this feat. In 2023, the representative from Vietnam, Sport Center 1, won the championship. This time, VTV Binh Dien Long An took on the task of bringing victory to Vietnam as Sport Center 1 had done before. However, the girls of the team from the S-shaped strip of land could not repeat the feat of their colleagues, even though they had an incredible journey from the group stage to the final.
After passing the group stage, VTV Binh Dien Long An faced Kaohsiung Taipower (Taiwan, China), a team with a perfect record in the group stage and highly appreciated for its disciplined play and well-balanced squad. However, VTV Binh Dien Long An showed great determination and spirit, the girls from Vietnam continued to play excellently against Kaohsiung Taipower in the quarter-finals to win 3-1, thereby gaining the right to enter the semi-finals of this prestigious tournament.
In the thrilling semi-final, Long An avenged their loss to Beijing in the group stage in the most impressive way, winning 3-0. Against a formidable opponent from China, the Long An girls performed a powerful and sophisticated total volleyball game, creating a one-sided game, stunning the opponent right from the first shots. With the strong and resilient main striker Tran Thi Thanh Thuy, along with Vi Thi Nhu Quynh, Lu Thi Phuong and Vo Thi Kim Thoa shining at the right moments, they contributed to bringing Long An to the final match, as well as participating in the FIVB Club World Championship for the first time in history.
However, VTV Binh Dien Long An's opponent in the final match was Zhetysu. The team from Kazakhstan was really too strong compared to the rest. In the semi-finals, Zhetysu easily defeated Nakhon Ratchasima (Thailand) in just three sets, with a playing style that focused on strength and superior height, thereby winning the right to enter the final.
Before the final, both teams were on the journey to find their first major title on the international stage. If VTV Binh Dien Long An had a young force, long-term commitment and persistent fighting spirit, then Zhetysu mainly relied on a team of experienced foreign players but still had outstanding strength and height to "crush" their opponents on the way to the final.
In the final match, despite their best efforts, VTV Binh Dien Long An could not create a surprise against the strong Zhetysu, and had to accept defeat with a score of 1-3. The defeat was regrettable, but the efforts of Thanh Thuy and her teammates, VTV Binh Dien Long An when overcoming a series of "superior" opponents to win the runner-up position of the tournament is commendable. Along with that, the Vietnamese representative has just learned many valuable lessons, and being able to participate in the FIVB Club World Championship is also a miracle. And although the dream of winning the championship was unfinished, the journey of the girls from Vietnam in this year's tournament is truly admirable and proud.
