On the afternoon of September 26, heavy rain flooded and damaged more than 12 hectares of VietGAP vegetables of Vinh Xuan Agricultural Service and General Cooperative, Hung Dong commune, with a loss of over 70%.
Ms. Nguyen Thanh Tra in Vinh Xuan hamlet, Hung Dong commune said: After heavy rain on September 25-26, the family's vegetable garden was basically damaged. There was a forecast of rain so I went out to pick some vegetables, by yesterday morning only some areas of cabbage were damaged. But in the afternoon the rain was so heavy, the sprouts were all submerged, my husband and I gathered to pull them out, and were able to salvage a little.

In recent years, this vegetable area has been frequently flooded. According to Ms. Nguyen Thanh Tra, short rains can last all day, but longer rains can take 3-5 days for the water to recede.

According to Mr. Vo Thanh Nam - Vice Chairman of Hung Dong Commune People's Committee: The whole commune has 15 hectares of vegetables, of which the flooded area is mainly located in the concentrated vegetable growing area, the remaining 3 hectares in people's gardens are less affected. "Continuous heavy rain, while the Nghi Kim - Nghi Van canal system has not been completed yet, so the water drains slowly. On the evening of September 26, the commune hired an excavator to scrape the ground and clear the canals to drain the water quickly, so the flooding situation has been temporarily resolved", said Mr. Vo Thanh Nam.

As the locality with the largest damaged winter crop area in the province, by the afternoon of September 26, Dien Chau district had 330 hectares of corn, peanuts and vegetables flooded.
On the morning of September 27, although there were no official statistics, according to Mr. Vo Anh Khoa - Deputy Head of the District Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the affected crop area had increased significantly. Some communes such as Dien Hoang had 140 hectares flooded, an increase of 70 hectares compared to yesterday afternoon; Dien Hung commune had 60 hectares of fallen corn and 10 hectares of vegetables from 35 hectares; Dien Hai commune had 65 hectares of fallen corn... The affected corn area was mainly at the stage of 7-8 leaves to flowering and sprouting. Although no corn died, the yield would not be significant.

The current difficulty of Dien Chau district is that due to high tides, the drainage system must be closed at many times to prevent saltwater intrusion, affecting the drainage of colored areas.
According to a quick report from the People's Committees of districts, towns and cities, heavy rain has affected agricultural production.
The synthesis of the Nghe An Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection by the end of September 26 also showed that the whole province had over 372 hectares of corn, peanuts, and various vegetables flooded and fallen. Of which, the affected area was mainly in Dien Chau district with 330 hectares, Thanh Chuong with 16.5 hectares, Vinh city with 12 hectares, Do Luong with 9 hectares... Because the summer-autumn rice area had been harvested, so up to now, there has been no damage to rice.
Currently, localities are focusing on overcoming and limiting damage caused by floods.
