Dozens of French police injured in clashes with protesters

About 2,000 protesters, including 300 dressed in black, turned out in the Maurienne Valley to protest against the construction of a railway line that includes a tunnel between the French city of Lyon and the Italian city of Turin.

French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin put the number of police injuries at 12. Officials said border checks had uncovered 400 items, such as knives and hammers, while 96 individuals confirmed by security services to be from Italy were deported back.
