Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City felt tremors from strong earthquake in Myanmar

(QNO) - At around 1:20 p.m. this afternoon, March 28, many people in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City suddenly felt a distinct shaking, especially in high-rise buildings. This phenomenon was determined to be due to the impact of a strong earthquake measuring 7.3 on the Richter scale that occurred in Myanmar.

According to information from the Institute of Geophysics, the epicenter of the earthquake was located at 21.71 degrees North latitude and 96.02 degrees East longitude, with a depth of about 10km. The earthquake occurred at 6:20:57 GMT (13:20:20 Hanoi time).

In Hanoi, many people living and working in apartment buildings and high-rise office buildings such as Luong Yen, Time City, the central area (Hoan Kiem, Dong Da, Hai Ba Trung) and suburban districts (Hoai Duc, Ha Dong, Nam Tu Liem, Bac Tu Liem) clearly felt the shaking. Some people said they saw fish tanks swaying, windows shaking, and chandeliers hitting each other making noise.

Similar situations were also recorded in Ho Chi Minh City, where people in high-rise buildings also felt the shaking. Many people quickly evacuated to the streets to ensure safety.

Although it caused tremors in many areas in Vietnam, experts assessed the disaster risk level of this earthquake in Vietnam as level 0. The Institute of Earth Sciences is continuing to monitor the earthquake's developments.

Records from neighboring countries show that in Myanmar: The earthquake caused strong shaking in many areas. Initial reports indicate that many buildings shook, some roads were warped and pieces of ceilings fell from structures. However, details about the extent of damage are still being collected.

In the capital Bangkok (Thailand), people panicked and quickly left high-rise buildings when they felt the shaking. Even water in swimming pools was splashed due to the shock.

A notable development was that about 12 minutes after the initial earthquake, a strong aftershock measuring 6.4 on the Richter scale occurred, indicating geological instability in the area.

Authorities in the affected countries continue to closely monitor the situation and assess potential risks. People in areas where tremors were felt are advised to remain calm, listen to official announcements and prepare for possible situations.
