Ren village's conical hats (Gia Thanh commune, Phu Ninh district) are displayed and promoted at trade and tourism promotion programs, contributing to the development of local specialty products.
In 2024, Phu Tho province will welcome about 6.6 million tourists, with total tourism revenue estimated at VND 4,100 billion. This year, during the 10 days of the Hung Kings' Commemoration and the Cultural - Tourism Week of the Ancestral Land in the year of At Ty 2025 (from the 1st to the 10th of the third lunar month), Phu Tho is expected to welcome about 5.5 million visitors. The relatively large number of tourists is a favorable condition for tourism gift products to develop strongly, bringing in significant revenue and spreading the unique cultural values of the Ancestral Land.
Mr. Nguyen Duc Hoa - Director of Phu Tho Tourism Promotion Information Center (Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism) said: "Tourists when visiting and experiencing all have the need to learn about and choose to buy souvenirs and tourist gifts. Currently, many tourist areas and spots in the province have arranged gift display booths and Phu Tho's typical products are also introduced at tourism promotion events inside and outside the province, helping tourists easily access and choose. Building and diversifying souvenir products is also one of the methods to promote tourism brands and attract tourists".
Gift products contribute to increasing the attractiveness of the destination, encouraging tourists to spend, and at the same time acting as “cultural ambassadors” to promote the local image. A complete and attractive tour cannot lack the activity of shopping for specialties and gifts bearing the mark of the region.
In recent times, the province has focused on restoring and developing traditional craft villages, improving the quality of OCOP products, promoting trade and tourism promotion activities to display and introduce typical products. With more than 300 recognized OCOP products, Phu Tho possesses abundant resources to select typical, unique products to include in the tourism value chain. The province also encourages people and businesses to invest in researching designs and packaging suitable to customer tastes. Visitors can choose handicraft products such as ceramics, wood carvings, brocade, conical hats... or local specialties that are beautifully processed and packaged such as tea, banh chung, banh ca, sour meat, fish, pickled cassava, rice noodles...
Ms. Trieu Thi Nhuong - Member of the Ren village conical hat craft village (Gia Thanh commune, Phu Ninh district) shared: "The village has about 40 households making the craft. We are always actively improving the designs to create beautiful and durable hats, imbued with the culture of the Ancestral Land, helping visitors have more meaningful choices when looking for souvenirs."
Besides the achieved results, the province's tourism gift products are still limited in diversity and creativity in design, leading to some product lines lacking their own mark and having difficulty competing with products from other localities.
To develop tourism gifts sustainably and effectively, Phu Tho still has a lot of room to exploit, it is necessary to invest more in design, improve product quality, and build diverse and convenient distribution channels for tourists. In the context of promoting tourism development linkages today, building cultural stories associated with gift products and integrating historical and cultural values into each product helps create a distinct highlight and enhance competitiveness.
