Pig price developments in the North

On the morning of April 14, the Northern region recorded an increase of VND 1,000/kg in Thai Nguyen province, raising the price to VND 68,000/kg, equivalent to localities such as Bac Giang, Hung Yen, Thai Binh, Hanoi, Vinh Phuc and Tuyen Quang.
At this time, the purchase price of live pigs in the region fluctuates from 67,000 to 69,000 VND/kg. Of which, Phu Tho is the locality with the highest price in the region at 69,000 VND/kg.
Pig price developments in the Central Highlands
In the Central Highlands region, the price of live pigs increased by 1,000 VND/kg in Thanh Hoa, reaching 68,000 VND/kg, equivalent to Nghe An province.
Currently, the purchase price of live pigs in this area fluctuates between 67,000 - 73,000 VND/kg, in which Ha Tinh continues to maintain the lowest price of 67,000 VND/kg.
Pig price situation in the South
In the Southern region, this morning, there was a slight increase in the two localities of Soc Trang and Dong Thap, with prices reaching 73,000 VND/kg and 74,000 VND/kg, respectively.
The current purchase price of live pigs in the region is fluctuating from 72,000 to 74,000 VND/kg. Notably, the price of 74,000 VND/kg – the highest in the country – appeared in the provinces of Dong Thap, Tay Ninh, Dong Nai, Tien Giang, Ben Tre, Kien Giang and Ca Mau.
According to industry experts, the live hog market is likely to maintain its current price or increase slightly in the coming time, as consumer demand is expected to increase sharply during the April 30 – May 1 holiday. However, the price trend will still depend on the actual supply situation as well as the ability to transport between regions.
According to data from the Ha Nam Statistical Office, as of March 31, the total herd of buffaloes and cows in the province reached about 37,295, an increase of 0.1% over the same period in 2024. Of which, the number of buffaloes was 3,620 (up 0.6%), the herd of cows was 33,675 (up 0.1%) and the herd of dairy cows was 4,425 (down 4.8%).
In addition, the province's total pig herd is estimated at 354,170, up 0.9%; the poultry herd reached 9.11 million, up 1.3%, of which the chicken herd alone reached nearly 6.28 million, up 1.6% over the same period last year.
In the first quarter of 2025, the output of live pigs in Ha Nam province is estimated at nearly 18,386 tons, up 1.2%; the output of live poultry meat is estimated at 6,365 tons, up 1.5%; the output of buffalo meat is estimated at about 44.8 tons, up 0.4%; and the output of beef is estimated at 600.6 tons, up 0.6% over the same period last year.
