Ethnic minorities visit the Provincial Party Committee base relic site

“Where are you going, so many people? Let's go visit... the Binh Thuan Provincial Party Committee base relic site. Let's go just to see!” K' Thi Be, a K'ho ethnic, in her thirties, said with a joyful look on her face, smiling.

That day, March 10, 2023, 10 days after the Binh Thuan Provincial Party Committee Base Relic Site during the Anti-American Resistance War (KDTCCTU) was completed. The 5-meter wide asphalt road from the intersection of village 3, Dong Giang commune leading to the relic site in Sa Lon forest, Sa Lon mountain, 12 kilometers away to the southeast of the commune, was bustling with people. They were the K'ho and Rac Lay people of Dong Giang and La Da communes nearby. Their laughter was bustling and the sound of motorbikes was loud and prolonged. It was different from the usual deserted, desolate road, when a few K'ho men, carrying shoulder-mounted cha vac (a type of tree-cutting tool made from old bamboo roots bent over fire, with a knife attached to the end), carrying baskets on their shoulders, trudged on the road and then disappeared behind the thick-leafed forest bushes, leaving no trace of the previous days.

Ethnic minorities visit and have fun at the Provincial Party Committee base relic site.

In April this year, during my trip back to the source, I returned to the CCTU KDT; returned to the Sa Lon forest. These days, affected by the weather in the South Central Highlands, Sa Lon rains at night and early morning, and during the day the sky and sea are clear and sunny. The bright yellow sunlight brightens up the red color to the point of infatuation, astonishment, and a bit of surprise of the po lang flowers that suddenly appear in the middle of the vast green, when the car turns over a steep curve, a forest area, and we suddenly see them. The road into the forest is like a thread, each time opening up the silence of nature; reminding people of a mysterious, profound world, and the legends of the revolutionaries who endured many hardships during the anti-American war more than fifty years ago. And at that moment, the sound of the bird "catching her and tying her to the pole" resounded clearly in the gaps of the forest like the stirring notes of a melody, evoking in the hearts of passersby the feeling: Nature here is recovering strongly, after the damage to forest resources due to many reasons in a number of years. Also on the road into the forest these April days, there are many vehicles of all kinds traveling. Most of them are cars carrying many people, with license plates from many provinces and cities. Mr. Vo Cap - Head of the Management Board of the CCBT KDT, welcomed regular guests, those who wanted him to explain, at the Memorial House. The conversation became intimate, when he said: "If you need anything, just let us know. Whatever we can do for you, we will do our best!" Following that statement was a friendly smile, making the guests feel that their need for detailed explanation and taking souvenir photos with the Management Board became easy.

According to Mr. Cap, in 2024, KDTCCTU added a number of artifacts and images; reinforced the display belt at the Memorial House. Through many sources, KDTCCTU added 20 artifacts which were souvenirs of cadres and soldiers of the Binh Thuan Provincial Party Committee during the resistance war against the US. Such as the radio and Seiko watch of comrade Le Ngoc Lien (Nghi Duc commune, Tanh Linh district), former guard of the Provincial Party Committee from 1961-1975; the hammock, water bottle, US mug and stainless steel spoon of Ms. Huynh Thi Xuan Hanh, Binh Thuan Provincial Party Committee Office from 1968-1975... In 2023, KDTCCTU welcomed over 31,000 visitors, in 2024 over 17,640 visitors. For the majority of people, KDTCCTU is not only a place to return to the source but also a forest park. Here the air is fresh, the sound of streams flowing, birds chirping all day long. Occasionally, in the bamboo forest not far away, a flock of ground phoenixes with many children appears, their wings spread wide, flying by, the sound of their wings disturbing the quiet atmosphere of a small corner of the forest. Not only that, in the nearby forest, the season of wild pomelos in April and May and the season of bright yellow fruit also make the children of the ethnic minorities intoxicated, wanting a date. They ask their mothers to take them to the relic site, and from there they invite each other to pick fruit. For the ethnic minorities, life is closely connected to the forest, green trees, the sounds of wild birds and animals... that is really necessary and attractive to them. Also here, when you calm down, everyone will meet the ancients, the majestic figures of their ancestors through the artifacts such as the cellars, Hoang Cam kitchens, anti-invasion trenches reflecting the shadow of time...

Last week, I met a K'ho mother here, telling her five-year-old child about KDTCCTU in her ethnic language and the child seemed to enjoy it. "I really like it!", I blurted out. At that moment, I recognized K' Thi Be, who had asked about 2023, walking in the group of girls. This girl's eyes widened, and she exclaimed: "We met again!". Then she explained: "I took some cousins from Me Pu, Duc Linh district to visit the relic site. They wanted to know how the K'ho, Rac Lam... people who followed Uncle Ho's army in the past were like." Instead of letting Vo Cap answer, I quickly said: "The people of all ethnic groups are loyal to the revolution. They helped the revolution a lot." The K'ho woman's smile suddenly became strangely beautiful...!
