Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Thanh Binh
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Thanh Binh gave a press interview ahead of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's upcoming trip to attend WEF Dalian and work in China.
Could you please assess the significance and importance of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh 's working trip to attend WEF Dalian and work in China this time?
Deputy Minister Pham Thanh Binh : The 2024 WEF Dalian Conference will take place from June 25-27, 2024 with the theme "New Growth Horizons" in Dalian City, China. The conference is the second largest in scale after the WEF Davos Conference with the participation of 1,600 delegates, organized with the spirit of being a place to converge and create new ideas, new fields, pioneering and innovative models that will shape future economic sectors.
The Prime Minister is one of the few Heads of Government invited by WEF and host country China to attend the Conference for two consecutive years. This shows that WEF and China highly value Vietnam's position, role and contribution to global economic growth as well as Vietnam's development vision for the economy in the future.
Therefore, the Prime Minister's working trip to attend the WEF Dalian Conference this year has many important meanings. We believe that there are some points as follows:
Firstly, the Conference is an opportunity for Vietnam to grasp and contribute its voice to new issues, trends, new connotations, new driving forces for world economic growth, and to exchange development and governance thinking at the national and global levels.
Second, the Conference is an opportunity to promote our country's achievements in economic and social growth and development, conveying a strong message about a dynamic and innovative Vietnam, an attractive destination for global corporations.
Third, the Conference is also an opportunity for Vietnam to strengthen exchanges and promote relations with countries, partners and international organizations, affirming our country's role and position in the international community, contributing to effectively implementing the foreign policy of the 13th National Party Congress.
Along with attending the Conference, during this working trip, the Prime Minister will have bilateral talks and meetings with senior leaders of China. In the context that the two sides have recently agreed to deepen and elevate the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between Vietnam and China, and to build a community of shared future of strategic significance between Vietnam and China. The maintenance of high-level contacts between the two sides is extremely important in enhancing political trust, concretizing common perceptions and high-level agreements between the two sides. This will positively contribute to the well-developed relationship between the two countries.
Deputy Minister, please tell us what contributions the Vietnamese delegation will make to the 2024 WEF Dalian Conference?
Deputy Minister Pham Thanh Binh : At the Conference, the Prime Minister is expected to have a dense and continuous program of activities, both bilaterally and multilaterally. This year in particular, for the first time, the Prime Minister will have a special speech at the Opening Plenary Session with Chinese Premier Li Qiang and leaders of other countries. In addition, the Prime Minister will speak at the discussion sessions at the Conference, chair dialogues and seminars with the business community specifically for Vietnam.
With the achievements of Vietnam's growth and development, I believe that the participation of the Vietnamese delegation, especially Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, will contribute significantly to the overall success of the Conference, reflected in the following three aspects:
Firstly, the Prime Minister will share Vietnam's assessments, comments and views on the world economy, prospects, opportunities, challenges, and "great changes" taking place in the world, affecting global economic development in the short and long term.
Second, the Prime Minister will discuss and propose solutions to promote the potential and strengths of the Asia-Pacific region, including the role of major economies in the region such as China. In particular, we will demonstrate Vietnam's responsible contribution, emphasizing the role of the private sector and public-private partnership in promoting growth, especially new growth drivers.
Third, the Prime Minister will convey a message about Vietnam's socio-economic development achievements, share the vision, policies, development orientations and experience in macroeconomic management of the Party and Government of Vietnam. The Prime Minister will also call for cooperation and synergy between the WEF and partners, especially in high-priority, emerging industries, future industries with spillover effects such as artificial intelligence (AI), science, technology and innovation, etc.
