Signs and symptoms of type 2 diabetes

Báo Thanh niênBáo Thanh niên22/10/2024

Barbie Cervoni, a nutritionist working in the US, pointed out some signs and symptoms of type 2 diabetes, according to the health website Verywell Health .

Frequent urination

To remove excess sugar from the blood, the kidneys will increase their activity. The kidneys will use water from the cells in the body to dilute the sugar and excrete it through urine. Therefore, people with diabetes will urinate more than usual.

Excessive thirst

When blood sugar levels are high, the kidneys have to work harder to filter and remove excess sugar from the body.

This process causes the body to lose more water, leading to a constant feeling of thirst and having to drink a lot of water.

Tired

Our bodies need glucose to function. Glucose comes from food and is transported into cells by insulin, a hormone produced by the pancreas.

In people with diabetes, the pancreas does not produce enough insulin, or the cells in the body are resistant to insulin and cannot absorb glucose. This leads to excess glucose in the blood and a deficiency in the cells.

When there is a lack of glucose, we will feel tired and lethargic because the body does not have enough energy to function.

Diabetics often feel hungry.

Excessive hunger

People with diabetes often feel hungry even after eating a full meal. This happens when the cells in the body become resistant to insulin, preventing glucose from entering the cells to nourish them. The body misinterprets this signal and sends a signal to the brain indicating a lack of energy, leading to cravings.

Numbness in limbs

Type 2 diabetes can cause nerve damage, known as peripheral neuropathy. The most obvious symptom of this condition is numbness, tingling, or pins and needles in the hands and feet. This usually comes on gradually and can get worse over time if blood sugar is not well controlled.

Long-lasting wounds

When blood has a lot of sugar, it may not circulate freely through the body. Poor circulation can make it difficult for blood to reach areas that need healing, slowing the healing process.
