During the historic days of April, the Ho Chi Minh Campaign Museum (District 1, Ho Chi Minh City) became a meeting place for Vietnamese people, a place to review the glorious golden pages of the nation's history.

In that space, a meaningful reunion took place between Colonel Tu De, pilot of the famous Quyet Thang Squadron for the Tan Son Nhat battle 50 years ago, and Mr. Nguyen Khac Nhu, combat assistant of Regiment 66, bringing many indescribable emotions to the witnesses.

The greatest honor and pride in Mr. Nguyen Khac Nhu's life was the moment he, his commander and comrades penetrated deep into the Independence Palace, captured President Duong Van Minh and the entire government cabinet, and unconditionally surrendered.

Pointing to the photo of the Liberation Army escorting President Duong Van Minh to Saigon Radio Station at noon on April 30, 1975, Mr. Nguyen Khac Nhu, operations assistant of Regiment 66, introduced: "The person walking on the left of Mr. Duong Van Minh is soldier Bang Nguyen That, on the right is Deputy Regiment Commander Pham Xuan The, right behind and holding pistols are me and some other comrades. We are all officers and soldiers of Regiment 66, Division 304, Corps 2".

The thematic exhibition “50 years of heroic epic” at the Ho Chi Minh Campaign Museum displays nearly 500 images, documents, and valuable artifacts of the 1975 Spring General Offensive and Uprising and images and documents about the development of Ho Chi Minh City.

The exhibition consists of 4 display sections.

Part 1 displays 44 images and documents reflecting the leadership of the Politburo, the Central Military Commission, the efforts and determination of the entire Party, people and army in the spring of 1975.

The Central Highlands Campaign Operation Plan - to launch a strategic offensive, destroy and smash the entire enemy defense system in the Central Highlands, moving towards a general offensive and unifying the country.

Urgent telegram from General Commander-in-Chief Vo Nguyen Giap signed on April 7, 1975 with the content: “Faster, faster, bolder, bolder, seize every minute, every hour, rush to the front, liberate the South. Determined battle and total victory”.

Part 2 displays 80 images, documents, and artifacts of historical significance to the Ho Chi Minh Campaign.

Part 3 of the exhibition is the images of the armed forces of the Southeast region - Military Region 7 in coordination with the main force and local people to liberate the provinces of the Southeast region.

Part 4 introduces images and documents about President Ho Chi Minh with the cause of national reunification and outstanding achievements in the process of construction and development of the Party Committee, government, people and armed forces of Ho Chi Minh City from 1975 to present.

Mr. Le Xuan Thuy (from Ha Nam) visited the Ho Chi Minh Campaign Museum during the historic days of April. The 74-year-old veteran stopped for a long time next to the displayed documents, reminiscing about a "time of fire and flowers".

Gia Tue, Thanh Xinh, Hong Phan (4th year students of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities) felt extremely moved and proud when visiting the museum. All three young people can find more documents about the historical Ho Chi Minh Campaign as well as about the museum for the final exam.

A model of the excerpt from "The Loyal Thatched House" in the war zone is reproduced in the exhibition space outside the museum. When building a revolutionary base in the forest, the leaders of the Central Office for Southern Vietnam used forest leaves to roof the house.

When enemy planes bombed the base, the soldiers evacuated to shelters, waiting for stability to return. When they returned, the houses in the base were still intact, the bombed areas were only burned in one place, not spreading to other places.

The Trung Quan thatched house was not only used for living but also for performing arts and showing movies for hundreds of people. It was also a place to store hundreds, thousands of tons of food and military weapons and equipment for combat.

At the Loyalty House, Colonel Tu De, a pilot in the Quyet Thang Squadron, and Mr. Nguyen Khac Nhu took a souvenir photo with the flag of the National Liberation Front of South Vietnam.

The A-shaped bunker model dates back to the resistance war against French colonialism, and was improved and used as a "steel wall" during the resistance war against the US. The bunker is effective against bombs, artillery, bullets and becomes a safe hiding place when the enemy attacks and sweeps.

The A-shaped tunnel has an isosceles triangle cross section, the top angle is about 55°, the frame is usually made of bamboo, wood or iron. The tunnel can be submerged or semi-submerged, with a protective layer of soil or soil mixed with straw. The A-shaped tunnel is strong, has a simple structure, can be built on any terrain, is easy to build, easy to dismantle, and takes advantage of local materials.

Captain Tran Thi Duan, a museum tour guide, said that during the historic days of April, thousands of people came here to learn about the Ho Chi Minh Campaign, including many students.

Colonel Nguyen Nhu Truc - Deputy Chief of Political Affairs and Colonel Nguyen Ngoc Diep - Director of Military Region 7 Museum awarded certificates of merit to individuals who donated artifacts to the museum.

The exhibition runs until May 20.
