DOT - From March 1, 2025, Dong Thap Provincial Police officially took over the state management function of drug addiction treatment and post-treatment management from the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs (now the Department of Home Affairs). Up to now, the Provincial Police have assigned officers and soldiers to quickly approach and deploy tasks so that all activities of the Drug Addiction Treatment Center can take place stably.

Although it was a completely new and unprecedented job, when assigned to receive the new task at the Drug Rehabilitation Center under the Department of Drug Crime Investigation Police, Dong Thap Provincial Police, officers and soldiers quickly started to carry out the task with an urgent, scientific, safe, inheritable and effective attitude. Lieutenant Colonel Vo Thanh Long - Deputy Head of the Department of Drug Crime Investigation Police, Provincial Police, said: "The Department of Drug Crime Investigation Police advised the Provincial Police Department's Board of Directors to develop plan No. 1 to implement the reception work, which included the reception process and specific assignment of tasks to each professional unit of the Provincial Police in the reception work. In addition, with the close attention and support of the Board of Directors, the enthusiastic help of officers and civil servants from the treatment facility, the newly established Dong Thap Provincial Drug Rehabilitation Center quickly carried out the handover and put into stable operation".

Every day, the students are monitored for their health, given medicine, given meals on time, participate in cultural, artistic, physical and sports activities, and are educated on behavioral and personality rehabilitation; receive counseling, cultural and vocational training; and are organized with occupational therapy to ensure the best treatment results. For Senior Lieutenant Tran Thanh Tuan, formerly a doctor of the Logistics Department, Provincial Police, who was transferred to work at the facility, this job is completely new. According to him, these patients are special, because in addition to monitoring the progress of each student during the treatment process, he also has to grasp their thoughts and feelings and give them words of encouragement to help them overcome the temptation of drugs and soon reintegrate into the community.

First, I will screen the health of the drug addicts, then take the new students to the withdrawal room to treat and detoxify the patients, treat the patients' mental health and common diseases for the students. After 15 days of withdrawal, the students will return to the student management place to learn a trade.”

Currently, the facility is organizing drug addiction treatment for more than 500 students. From March 1, 2025 to now, the facility has received 66 new students and 52 students have completed drug addiction treatment. In addition to the officers and soldiers of the police force assigned and mobilized to the facility, there are also 27 employees and contract workers of the old drug addiction treatment facility who continue to perform their duties here.

To create the best conditions for the facility to operate smoothly, securely and safely, the Provincial Police Department directed the Mobile Police Department to assign a working group to carry out the task of ensuring security and order 24/7 from inside and outside the facility. Captain Truong Kim Hoa - Deputy Head of the Dong Thap Provincial Drug Rehabilitation Facility, informed: "On the basis of inheriting the old facility, grasping the thoughts and aspirations of the students, officers and soldiers in the new task, the officers and soldiers have a firm ideology and feel secure in their work. The students strictly comply and raise awareness on the basis of the management of the Police force".

The student management and education and vocational training team of the provincial drug rehabilitation center promptly grasped the thoughts and aspirations of the students.

To ensure that drug rehabilitation, drug addict management, and post-rehabilitation management are organized in a synchronous, unified, effective, and gradually systematic manner. The Drug Crime Investigation Police Department will continue to advise the Provincial Police Department to develop a plan to ensure security and order at the grassroots level, issue working regulations and drug treatment procedures, conduct reviews, statistics, and propose repairs and additions to facilities so that the activities of the facilities are increasingly better, contributing to gradually controlling, preventing, and repelling drug crimes and social evils.
