Expanding the model of caring for workers' lives

Born in 2012, according to the Conclusion Notice No. 77-TB/TW of the Central Party Secretariat, Workers' Month has now gone through 13 years of continuous, creative, and flexible implementation, gradually becoming a symbol of practical care and honor for workers.

Taking care of workers' health

Not only a propaganda highlight, Workers' Month has contributed to institutionalizing the Party's viewpoints, realizing the State's policies and affirming the central role of the working class in the cause of sustainable development, modernization and international integration.

2024 - the first year of implementing the Resolution of the 13th Congress of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor and also the year marking a new, strong step forward for the Trade Union organization to "bring the resolution into life".

The theme “Worker Solidarity - Implementing the Resolution” is not only a message, but also an action realized at 38,743 grassroots unions through practical programs. From flexible decentralization, expanding dialogue, new models in caring for workers' lives to widespread communication, it has created a Workers' Month, a Month of Action on occupational safety and hygiene that leaves an impression on workers.

Workers' Month 2024 has recorded impressive results, with nearly 7,000 dialogues, forums, connecting workers with party committees, local authorities and businesses; 64 thematic voter meetings, where more than 10,000 workers directly spoke out about the revised Law on Social Insurance and the Law on Trade Unions.

Trade unions at all levels organized 2,737 "Thank you workers" activities, honoring the silent contributions of millions of working hands; 8,341 grassroots trade unions were established with 117,488 new union members, creating a strong breakthrough in organizational development.

During Workers' Month 2024, more than 2 million workers were given gifts and support; 27,092 "Union Shelters" were newly built and repaired. For example, Ms. Nguyen Thi Truc Ly, a worker at E-Top Vietnam Co., Ltd., was recently supported by the union with 1.5 million VND and provided with health care advice, providing useful knowledge.

Ms. Doan Thi Yen, a worker at Uy Viet Shoe Company, shared: "My family is facing difficulties and the grassroots union came to encourage, give gifts, and support part of the expenses to help my family stabilize their lives."

In addition, trade unions at all levels organized more than 12,000 physical and sports activities, "Run for Health", "Worker Dance"; "Worker Singing" contests, "Excellent Propagandist", "9th Hour+", "Creative Workers"... not only helping workers develop skills, but also nurturing their spiritual and cultural life at the workplace. Welfare models such as "Zero-VND Market", "Union Meal", "Love Station" were actively implemented by trade unions at all levels.

From action to results, from policy to practice, Workers' Month 2024 is the maturity of social awareness about the role, position and rights of workers.

Many practical activities

Workers' Month 2025 takes place in the context of the whole country celebrating many major holidays, entering a historic period of the revolution to arrange and streamline the organization of the political system.

Workers' Month 2025 has the theme "Vietnamese workers pioneering into a new era", organized in parallel with the Action Month on occupational safety and hygiene "Strengthening assessment, identifying hazards and risks and proactively implementing measures to ensure occupational safety and hygiene at the workplace".

This is an affirmation of the joint efforts of all levels, sectors, the entire political system, businesses and workers so that the journey of efforts for workers - solidarity for workers truly becomes a journey of sustainable development, civilization and happiness.

Vice President of the Hanoi Labor Federation (HFF) Nguyen Huy Khanh said: In 2025, Hanoi Workers' Month will focus on caring for and protecting the legitimate rights and interests of workers and civil servants through coordinating inspections, checks, and supervision of the implementation of labor laws and policies for workers; advising the Party Committee, coordinating with the authorities at the same level and employers to contact and dialogue with union members and workers, thereby promptly grasping and resolving legitimate recommendations of workers and laborers; strengthening negotiation activities, signing Collective Labor Agreements; proactively advising and proposing to participate in building harmonious, stable, and progressive labor relations in enterprises.

“The Hanoi Federation of Labor focuses on implementing and creating breakthroughs in developing union members, establishing grassroots unions, especially in non-state enterprises and informal sector workers; paying attention to selecting and introducing outstanding union members for the Party Committee to train and consider admitting them to the Communist Party of Vietnam; paying attention to union members and workers directly involved in production,” said Mr. Nguyen Huy Khanh.

Meanwhile, Dong Nai is one of the provinces with the largest number of union members in the country, with more than 700,000 workers and employees. Chairwoman of Dong Nai Provincial Federation of Labor Nguyen Thi Nhu Y visited boarding houses in Bien Hoa City to visit and give gifts to workers at Pou Chen Vietnam Co., Ltd., who are in difficult circumstances and have serious illnesses. She asked about their health, learned about their circumstances and lives, and encouraged them. At the same time, she requested the grassroots union to continue to coordinate with the enterprise to come up with policies to best care for and support workers who are unfortunately suffering from serious illnesses and have difficulty working. The Provincial Federation of Labor also supported each worker with 2 million VND/person and gifts.

Ms. Thai Thu Xuong, Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, said: Workers' Month 2025 has the theme "Vietnamese workers are pioneers entering a new era". Accordingly, trade unions at all levels strive for 55% or more of grassroots trade unions in all types of enterprises to have at least one activity in response to Workers' Month; 35% or more of grassroots trade unions in administrative agencies and public service units to have at least one appropriate activity in response to Workers' Month 2025.

During Workers' Month 2025, trade unions at all levels will choose to carry out well a number of activities such as: Program "Creative workers, confidently entering the new era", Program "Dialogue in May" and Forum "Party with workers - Workers with the Party", Program "Thanking workers"; organizing a peak month for developing union members, establishing grassroots unions; introducing the development of party members and workers; Program "Propaganda, raising awareness of union members and workers".

Accordingly, the program "Creative workers, confidently entering the new era" will have the organization of "Creative Labor Festival 2025", competitions to propose ideas, initiatives, technical solutions to innovate production processes; save raw materials, fuel, time, labor; new methods, good models in modern business management; content and methods of union activities at the grassroots level. The program will honor and commend workers with achievements in labor, production with many initiatives and creativity; achieve high results in competitions for skilled workers...

For the "May Dialogue" Program and the "Party with Workers - Workers with the Party" Forum, trade unions at all levels advise, propose, and coordinate to organize for leaders of Party committees, authorities at the same level, and employers to contact and dialogue with union members and workers in accordance with actual conditions.

In addition, the Party Committee at the same level advises the organization of the "Party with Workers - Workers with the Party" Forum before the Party Congress at the same level to listen to and solve workers' problems; absorb and implement the Party's instructions.

Implementing the program "Thanking workers", trade unions at all levels coordinate with employers to organize activities to care for, support and show gratitude to workers (visiting, giving gifts, giving vouchers; praising workers for their efforts to overcome difficulties, exemplary workers, workers with many years of experience, etc.); organizing sightseeing, vacations, meetings with workers' families; "Cultural and Sports Festival"...

To organize a peak month for developing union members, establishing grassroots unions; introducing and developing Party members for workers, unions at all levels will step up representation, care, and protection of the legitimate and legal rights and interests of workers, creating a breakthrough in developing union members and establishing grassroots unions, especially in non-state enterprises and informal sector workers; and organize the admission of "May Union Member Class".

During Workers' Month, trade unions at all levels will widely disseminate and disseminate the Trade Union Law and the Social Insurance Law 2024. Organize online contests combined with dissemination via social networks, mobile applications, and dramatization of these two laws; organize talk shows to invite experts to advise and answer questions; create short clips and infographics to help workers easily access policies and laws.

In addition, trade unions at all levels will propagate and raise awareness among union members and workers about Party congresses at all levels; about opportunities and challenges in the current period; about the new era - the era of national growth.
