Durian price assessment today April 16, 2025

Durian prices on April 16, 2025 in major growing regions such as the Southwest, Southeast and Central Highlands showed stability but showed signs of a slight increase compared to the beginning of the month, due to scarce supply as the main crop season in the Southwest is about to end and the Central Highlands has not yet entered peak season.

Specifically, in the West, beautiful Ri6 durian is priced at 140,000 - 144,000 VND/kg, Ri6 is priced at 60,000 - 70,000 VND/kg, beautiful Thai durian is priced at 177,000 - 180,000 VND/kg, and Thai durian is priced at 70,000 - 80,000 VND/kg. In the Central Highlands, the price of Ri6 is higher, around VND70,000 - 80,000/kg, while the price of beautiful Thai durian fluctuates between VND170,000 - 180,000/kg. Compared to March 2025, when beautiful Thai durian was only about VND120,000/kg and beautiful Ri6 was about VND85,000/kg, the current price has increased significantly, reflecting strong export demand to China and unfavorable weather affecting output. However, prices may fluctuate if China continues to tighten quality control regulations, such as testing for yellow O, or if the weather in the Central Highlands improves, helping to increase supply in the coming time.

Durian price news on April 16, 2025

The durian market is becoming more exciting than ever as April 16, 2025 approaches, especially with positive signals from export negotiations to China - the world's largest durian consumer market. Changes in import policies and improved inspection procedures promise to have a strong impact on durian prices on April 16, 2025, bringing great opportunities for both Vietnamese farmers and businesses.

Thai officials have recently held discussions with their Chinese counterparts to find ways to remove barriers to durian exports. The focus of the meetings was a proposal to ease stringent checks for chemical residues, especially Basic Yellow 2 (BY2), which has caused many durian containers to be stuck at the border. Thailand has also proposed an initiative to improve customs clearance capacity by installing more modern machinery, extending operating hours, and adding staff at border checkpoints.

China has been open to these proposals, but has also asked Thailand to more strictly control the quality of durians right from the cultivation stage. If these changes are implemented, durian prices on April 16, 2025, could benefit from faster circulation of goods, reducing the risk of backlogs and better meeting the huge demand from the Chinese market.

To support durian exporters like Vietnam and Thailand, China is stepping up infrastructure improvements at border checkpoints like Nanning and Kunming. The number of BY2 testing labs has increased from three to five, allowing up to 400 durian samples to be processed daily. In addition, priority lanes for fruit imported from the ASEAN region have been significantly expanded from two to 12, with plans to start operating in early 2025.

These improvements not only shorten the waiting time but also reduce the risk of goods being returned, facilitating the delivery of high-quality durian batches to Chinese consumers. With these positive changes, durian prices on April 16, 2025 are expected to remain high, especially for Vietnam's Ri6 and Dona durian varieties, which are very popular.
