The 2-hectare (about 20,000 m2) Gung Re landfill in Gung Re commune, Di Linh district is on fire, causing smoke and dust to cover a large rural area. Hundreds of households are having to endure the stench and environmental pollution.
On March 30, a representative of the Management Board of Investment and Construction of Public Works in Di Linh District, Lam Dong Province, said that the unit is coordinating with the authorities to determine the cause of the fire at the Gung Re landfill. In addition, the implementation of control and prevention of the fire from spreading is also being urgently implemented.
Smoke columns tens of meters high rose from the Gung Re landfill fire.
According to the reporter, the 2-hectare Gung Ré landfill is on fire, with smoke columns tens of meters high from the landfill being blown everywhere by the wind. This has severely affected the environment around the Gung Ré landfill, causing foul odor and pollution.
A local resident said that the Gung Ré landfill started burning on the afternoon of March 29 from a small fire and is starting to spread. Not only that, the fire from the landfill is tending to spread to the pine forest and coffee gardens of the surrounding people.
Mr. NQT, a resident of Gung Re commune, said: "The Gung Re landfill fire has turned our lives upside down. The stench and smoke from the landfill fire have greatly affected the living environment of hundreds of surrounding households, especially in the two villages of Hang Hai and Hang Lang (Gung Re commune)."
A representative of the Di Linh District Public Works Investment and Construction Project Management Board said that the Gung Re landfill site was overloaded and had stopped accepting household waste since March 1, 2025. Currently, household waste in the district is collected and gathered at the Di Linh Waste Treatment Plant in Lien Dam Commune.
