Hariss Harun is a rare case in history when he held a leadership role while still playing.

"Hariss takes on the role of Vice President of the Federation for the 2025-2029 term. It is the first time in history that a player playing at the top level has been appointed to the senior leadership of the nation's top football organization," wrote The Straits Times .

Hariss received a series of questions about the possibility of retirement after the appointment was announced. However, the 34-year-old player affirmed: "I have no intention of hanging up my boots. I still want to continue to contribute both on and off the field to Singapore football."

Hariss's appointment as a member of the FAS board surprised many, including himself. However, Hariss said: "I understand that this role brings great responsibility, especially when I am still wearing the national team and club jerseys. But I am ready to learn, balance all roles and do my best when needed."

Hariss is one of the most successful players in Singaporean football. He has 140 caps for the national team, scored 11 goals, won the AFF Cup, AFC Cup and many titles in Malaysia and Singapore. Not only outstanding in his expertise, Hariss is also someone who is always interested in the development of the country's football.

Hariss is particularly concerned about the fact that many young players give up their careers in their twenties due to lack of direction. "If players retire due to injury, it is understandable. But it is sad when they withdraw because they do not see a future in Singaporean football. I want to contribute to changing that," Hariss concluded.

Hariss has pledged to withdraw from FAS meetings directly related to the national team to avoid conflicts of interest. He also cited the example of Aston Villa centre-back Tyrone Mings, who was appointed to the Euro 2028 organising committee, to emphasise that playing players can still make important contributions at a managerial level.
