CapCut surpasses ChatGPT

According to Unique Capital statistics, CapCut recorded 38.42 million downloads in July, Doubao chatbot reached 27.45 million downloads, while ChatGPT only reached 19.81 million.

Thus, two ByteDance software have led the global artificial intelligence application downloads, a sign that the TikTok owner's efforts to promote generative AI are starting to pay off.

CapCut, a video editing software with GenAI features that is popular among TikTok, Douyin and Instagram users, had 323 million monthly active users last month. Doubao, which launched in August 2023, recorded 30.42 million monthly active users, while ChatGPT recorded 172 million monthly active users during the same period.

A few months ago, ByteDance CEO reprimanded company employees for their slow response to ChatGPT - the application that caused an AI craze after it was introduced to the public on November 30, 2022.

Early August. ByteDance entered China's nascent text-to-video market with its Jimeng app. The desktop version was released in May, with Android and iPhone versions following.

In May, TikTok's parent company unveiled a series of large language models at prices lower than those of its industry rivals, a move that sparked a price war among AI models on the mainland. Doubao's large language system has at least eight versions.
