Hue Central Hospital achieves US 'bronze standard' in heart failure treatment

On July 28, Hue Central Hospital announced that the hospital's Cardiovascular Center has just been recognized by the American Heart Association (AHA) as meeting "bronze standards" in the treatment of heart failure.

Previously, in early 2023, the Cardiovascular Center participated in the program to standardize treatment quality according to AHA standards. With modern equipment, high technology and the efforts of the team of doctors, nurses..., the center was certified by AHA to meet "bronze standards" in the treatment of heart failure.

With this result, the Cardiovascular Center, Hue Central Hospital is the first unit in the Central Highlands region and the third unit in Vietnam to be recognized with American standards.

Currently, the Cardiovascular Center has 4 types of drugs that have been proven to be effective in improving the mortality rate of heart failure. In addition, the center is also equipped with many modern machines to treat the causes of heart failure such as heart valve surgery, pacemaker placement, percutaneous coronary intervention, etc. If heart failure progresses badly, a heart transplant can be performed.

According to Dr. Nguyen Ta Dong, Deputy Director of the Cardiovascular Center, Head of the Department of Internal Medicine and Cardiology (Hue Central Hospital), heart failure is the final consequence in the chain of cardiovascular diseases. From common diseases such as high blood pressure, long-term diabetes to serious, complicated diseases such as myocardial infarction will also lead to heart failure.

In reality, treating heart failure patients is difficult, especially difficult to achieve the target dose (the dose that reduces mortality the most). Even in developed countries, the number of heart failure patients achieving the target dose is still low.

"With the desire to improve the quality of heart failure treatment, the Cardiovascular Center has participated in the program to standardize treatment quality according to the standards of the American Heart Association. This is the premise for the Cardiovascular Center to continue to strive for greater achievements in the near future," Dr. Dong shared.
