Steel price today April 20, 2024 - Steel price for September 2024 delivery on the Shanghai Stock Exchange decreased by 11 yuan to 3,599 yuan/ton.

The September iron ore contract DCIOcv1 on China's Dalian Commodity Exchange (DCE) closed 3.07% higher at 874 yuan ($120.75) a tonne, up 4% in more than a month.

Steel price today April 20, 2024: Great pressure from imported steel

Benchmark iron ore SZZFK4 for May delivery on the Singapore Exchange (SGX) rose 0.52% to $116.45 a tonne, the highest since March 8, after rising more than 5% a day earlier.

Steel demand will increase further with the rapid pace of special bond issuance and further equipment upgrades in the second quarter of 2024, according to analysts at Jinrui Futures.

Some mills have started stockpiling goods for consumer demand during the upcoming May holiday. Iron ore trading volume at surveyed ports rose 24.6% from April 16 to 1.15 million tonnes on April 17.

China's state planner said it will push all newly issued debt-financed projects to start construction by the end of June, also supporting prices, according to reports.

Domestic steel market

Steel imports into Vietnam increased sharply in quantity from 2023 to the first months of 2024. The Vietnam Steel Association (VSA) said that if in the whole year of 2023, finished steel imports of all kinds to Vietnam were about 13.33 million tons, then in January 2024, Vietnam imported about 1.488 million tons. The main steel suppliers to Vietnam include China 67.6%, Japan 9.12%, followed by Taiwan (China), South Korea...

Data from the General Department of Customs also shows that the total import volume of hot-rolled coil (HRC) steel in the first quarter of 2024 is estimated to reach 3 million tons, 1.5 times higher than domestic production, with imports from China and India increasing dramatically, accounting for 75%.

With unprecedented imports, domestic steel production has been severely damaged.

Viet Duc steel price for CB240 coil steel decreased by 100 VND/kg, down to 13,940 VND/kg, D10 CB300 ribbed steel decreased by 10 VND/kg, down to 14,630 VND/kg.

The price of Viet Nhat Steel (VJS), with CB240 steel line decreased by 100 VND/kg, down to 14,110 VND/kg, with D10 CB300 steel line maintained at 14,310 VND/kg.

Kyoei Vietnam Steel (KVSC) price for CB240 coil steel decreased by 100 VND/kg, down to 13,970 VND/kg, and for D10 CB300 ribbed steel bar decreased by 100 VND/kg, down to 14,270 VND/kg.

Vietnam-America Steel (VAS) price, with CB240 coil steel line stable at 14,110 VND/kg, with D10 CB300 ribbed steel line stable at 14,210 VND/kg.

Steel prices in the Central region

Steel prices in the Central region today decreased by 100 VND/kg for some steel brands. Specifically:

Hoa Phat steel price, with CB240 coil steel line decreased by 100 VND/kg to 14,040 VND/kg; D10 CB300 ribbed steel bar decreased by 100 VND/kg to 14,390 VND/kg.

Viet Duc steel price, with CB240 coil steel line decreased by 100 VND/kg, down to 14,440 VND/kg; D10 CB300 ribbed steel bar decreased by 100 VND/kg, down to 14,750 VND/kg.

Vietnam-America Steel (VAS) prices, with CB240 coil steel stable at 14,210 VND/kg; D10 CB300 ribbed steel bar stable at 14,670 VND/kg.

Pomina steel price, with CB240 coil steel stable at 14,690 VND/kg; D10 CB300 rebar steel stable at 15,300 VND/kg.

Steel prices in the South

Steel prices in the South today also decreased by 100 VND/kg. Specifically:

Hoa Phat steel price, with CB240 coil steel line decreased by 100 VND/kg, down to 14,040 VND/kg; D10 CB300 ribbed steel bar decreased by 100 VND/kg, down to 14,430 VND/kg.

Pomina steel price with CB240 coil steel line is stable at 14,590 VND/kg; D10 CB300 rebar steel is stable at 15,300 VND/kg.

Viet My Steel (VAS), with CB240 coil steel stable at 14,010 VND/kg; D10 CB300 ribbed steel at 14,410 VND/kg.

Tung Ho Steel, with CB240 coil steel line stable at 14,210 VND/kg, with D10 CB300 rebar steel line at 14,510 VND/kg.
