On September 2, the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) announced the results of the Vietnam National Team participating in the International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI) 2023. Accordingly, the team won 1 Gold Medal, 2 Silver Medals and 1 Bronze Medal.

Among the 4 students who won medals, 3 were from the High School for Gifted Students in Natural Sciences, University of Natural Sciences, Vietnam National University, Hanoi.

They are Nguyen Ngoc Dang Khoa, 11th grade student, who won the Gold Medal, Tran Xuan Bach, 12th grade student, who won the Silver Medal and Nguyen Quang Minh, 12th grade student, who received the Bronze Medal.

The remaining Silver Medal belongs to Nguyen Duc Thang, an 11th grade student at Hung Vuong High School for the Gifted, Phu Tho.

The 35th IOI exam was held in person from August 28 to September 4, 2023 in Szeged, Hungary, with the participation of 351 candidates from 89 countries and territories.

As a result, 178 students won medals, including 30 Gold Medals, 58 Silver Medals and 90 Bronze Medals, accounting for 50.7% of the total number of contestants. 40 contestants were awarded certificates of merit.

With 100% of the contestants winning medals, the Vietnamese national IOI team is in the group of 9 countries and territories with high results according to the overall rankings, after China, the US, Japan, Korea, Israel...

According to the regulations, the International Olympiad in Informatics has 2 official exam days. On each exam day, candidates will take a 5-hour computer programming test and solve 3 problems with rich content.

The exam is automatically graded online, and the score sheet is published directly throughout the two exam days. This year's exam is considered more difficult than previous years and has some unusual types of problems, requiring the ability to apply knowledge flexibly and be highly creative.
