Overcoming challenges, Vietnam's online exports accelerate strongly

On the morning of October 17, Amazon Global Selling Vietnam officially opened the 5th Cross-border E-commerce Conference - Quintessence of Vietnamese Goods in Hanoi.

At the event, Amazon announced its 2024 strategic focus, introduced a series of new and improved tools, programs and services to support Vietnamese SMEs to start and grow their global businesses through Amazon; and officially opened the first Amazon Day-1 Training Center in Vietnam. These efforts contribute to accelerating online exports, promoting business innovation and digital transformation in Vietnam.

The emerging supply chain of global e-commerce

Speaking at the opening of the conference, Mr. Eric Broussard, Vice President of Amazon Group, International Selling Partners, said that there are currently about 2 million Amazon selling partners around the world. Products sold by third-party selling partners account for 60% of the total products sold on Amazon.

Mr. Eric Broussard emphasized that many Vietnamese businesses have joined this growing community of sellers. “Vietnam is an emerging supply chain link of global e-commerce. We appreciate Vietnam's production capacity, entrepreneurial spirit and rapid digital transformation speed. That is why we are committed to increasing Amazon's presence in Vietnam, continuing to accompany Vietnamese businesses to succeed with Amazon,” the Amazon leader affirmed.

Mr. Gijae Seong, Managing Director of Amazon Global Selling Vietnam, shared that e-commerce is one of the next big trends for businesses that want to develop globally. The question is whether Vietnamese businesses can quickly take advantage of this trend, grasp global consumer demand, and build a long-term growth plan.

“We will continue to make efforts to help Vietnamese sellers innovate and improve products to meet customer needs everywhere, build global brands and increase their presence in the international arena,” said Mr. Gijae Seong.

The Managing Director of Amazon Global Selling Vietnam also said that by announcing the 2024 strategy and introducing new tools and programs, Amazon wants to empower Vietnamese manufacturers, brands and entrepreneurs at every stage of the export journey and further promote growth opportunities.

At the conference, Ms. Lai Viet Anh - Deputy Director of the Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy (Ministry of Industry and Trade) said that e-commerce has changed the way businesses interact with each other and between businesses and customers, contributing to overcoming barriers in international trade activities, helping businesses more easily expand their business markets, thereby creating momentum for the development of export activities in particular and the country's economy in general.

“The application of e-commerce has received deep attention from the Government and created many conditions for development. In recent years, the Government has issued many policies and regulations to support businesses in digital transformation as well as accompany businesses in the journey of applying e-commerce and reaching out to the international market” - a representative of the Ministry of Industry and Trade informed.

Online export accelerates strongly

According to Amazon, Vietnam is a dynamic export-driven economy. Combining advantages in product innovation, strong production capacity and digital transformation, Vietnam has the ability to effectively promote retail exports through e-commerce. In the 12 months to August 31, 2023, Vietnamese sales partners on Amazon have achieved solid results: 17 million products of Vietnamese enterprises have been sold to Amazon customers around the world, increasing the presence of Vietnamese goods globally. The export value of Vietnamese enterprises selling on Amazon increased by 50%, contributing to the country's export turnover. Notably, thousands of Vietnamese enterprises have seized global business opportunities with Amazon. The number of Vietnamese sales partners on Amazon increased by 40%...

“The above results demonstrate the effective cooperation between Amazon and Vietnamese small and medium enterprises, and affirm the flexibility and resilience of domestic enterprises in a challenging economic environment,” said Mr. Gijae Seong.

Seeing the capacity and determination of Vietnamese businesses, Amazon Global Selling aims to expand its efforts to support Vietnamese sellers to enhance innovation, improve competitiveness, develop business and build global brands, capturing this dynamic new export trend.

Accordingly, Amazon Global Selling Vietnam announced 3 strategic focuses in 2024:

Firstly, enhance the readiness for cross-border e-commerce in Vietnam by: Strengthening cooperation with Government agencies and strategic partners to equip knowledge and provide training for domestic SMEs; at the same time, promoting the development of service providers in the industry; and expanding knowledge and experience sharing activities within the seller community.

Second, promote supply chain connectivity, including connecting sellers with manufacturers in many industries nationwide to create and expand the portfolio of products made in Vietnam, while encouraging domestic manufacturing enterprises to quickly grasp trends and opportunities for online exports.

Third, improve the quality and success of Vietnamese sellers through: Increasing investment in seller training; supporting the building and development of global brands; and enhancing and expanding support throughout the stages of online exporting for sellers, including account registration and management, cost optimization, logistics and brand building.

At the event, Amazon also introduced a series of new and improved tools and programs to help businesses accelerate exports through e-commerce.
