Witnessing this event within the framework of the high-level technology conference "Safe Artificial Intelligence - Shaping Responsible Innovation" taking place in Hanoi on the afternoon of December 5, Professor Yoshua Bengio (University of Montreal and Mila Institute), who is known as one of the "fathers of AI" commented: "While we continue to explore the transformative potential of AI, it is important to prioritize safety and ethical standards.
The challenge is not just to advance AI, but to apply AI responsibly, ensuring that it serves humanity without compromising its core values. By building a community committed to the ethical use of AI, we can foster progress and innovation for the good of society, and mitigate the risks posed by automated systems."
"The establishment of the AI Ethics Committee is an important step to lead Vietnam to a future of AI development in line with global standards of transparency, accountability and social benefits," affirmed Professor Yoshua Bengio.
According to a representative of VINASA, the establishment of the AI Ethics Committee demonstrates Vietnam's efforts in building an AI ecosystem where innovation is developed within an ethical framework, ensuring global competitiveness and protecting social values.
"The committee has the mission of guiding Vietnam's AI development roadmap, ensuring AI is deployed ethically, innovatively and for social benefit, and promoting a favorable legal environment for AI.
In addition to developing policies and risk assessment standards, the committee also acts as a bridge for international cooperation and advises the Vietnamese Government. Its main tasks include developing AI safety standards, analyzing risks, and raising awareness of responsible AI," VINASA said.
Sharing at the event, Mr. Truong Gia Binh, Chairman of FPT Corporation, one of the founding members of the committee, affirmed: "The AI Ethics Committee initiated by VINASA is one of the demonstrations of Vietnam's vision in taking on a responsible leadership role in the era of artificial intelligence.
As AI evolves rapidly, bringing both unprecedented opportunities and challenges, the need for responsible governance is more urgent than ever.
In the context of governments and international organizations around the world prioritizing the development of strict regulations and ethical frameworks for AI, this initiative of VINASA is considered to demonstrate Vietnam's strong commitment to working with the international community to address the complex challenges and exploit the opportunities that AI brings.
It is known that global initiatives such as the EU AI Act, the OECD AI Principles, and the UNESCO Ethical AI Recommendations are currently setting important standards for transparency, accountability, and fairness in AI governance.
