The event took place under the witness of senior leaders of the two countries at the Vietnam - Korea Economic Forum, marking an important milestone in the process of economic and industrial cooperation between Vietnam and Korea. The MOU focuses on four strategic cooperation directions: developing Vietnam's shipbuilding industry according to international standards; meeting the needs of upgrading and expanding VIMC 's fleet; researching and investing in large-scale shipbuilding and repair facilities; and promoting technology transfer and training of high-quality human resources for the shipbuilding industry.
VIMC is currently a pillar enterprise of the Vietnamese maritime industry in all three areas of seaports, shipping and maritime services. The need to rejuvenate the fleet and meet international environmental standards is one of the key tasks of VIMC's development strategy. Meanwhile, HD KSOE possesses the world's leading capacity in designing, building, repairing ships and supplying marine engines, with an advanced green technology ecosystem, meeting the trend of reducing emissions and saving fuel.
The signing of the MOU took place in the context of General Secretary To Lam’s visit to promote the Vietnam-Korea Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. This is an opportune time for the two sides to accelerate cooperation in the maritime sector, an industry that plays a role as a bridge between trade and industry between the two countries. The MOU is not only the first step for joint projects but also contributes to strengthening the regional maritime supply chain, promoting green transformation and creating more high-quality job opportunities for Vietnamese engineers and workers.
Under the agreement, VIMC and HD KSOE will establish a joint working group to review opportunities, develop an implementation roadmap, agree on technical standards and resource mobilization plans. Priority projects will include building new environmentally friendly ships, repairing and converting them to meet emission standards, training human resources to meet international standards and testing new technologies in fleet operations.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Chairman of the Board of Directors of VIMC Nguyen Canh Tinh affirmed: “Cooperation with HD KSOE is a strategic step to help synchronize the technical standards of the fleet with international trends, enhancing the competitiveness of the port, logistics, and maritime transport ecosystem led by VIMC.
The MOU signing ceremony between VIMC and HD KSOE became a highlight of the Vietnam - Korea Economic Forum, opening up prospects for long-term cooperation between Vietnam's key enterprises and Korea's leading maritime industry group, contributing to promoting the development of the national maritime industry in the period of deep integration.
