Van Du develops fruit trees in the direction of high technology

The fruit farm of Thuy Ngoc Company Limited brings high economic efficiency.

Realizing the favorable conditions for fruit tree development, in 2016 Thuy Ngoc Company Limited rented 80 hectares of agricultural land in Van Du commune to invest in renovating and planting fruit trees according to the CNC application chain. This is a technology that uses computers and computer software to control the machinery system in production. Company Director Nguyen Van Chung said: "To build a successful model, the company visited and learned from many fruit tree growing models in and outside the province. At the same time, it hired agricultural engineers with experience in CNC agricultural production to help the company build the model".

After land reclamation, the company divided the 80ha area into 8 production areas, invested in automatic and semi-automatic irrigation systems, and mechanized land preparation to grow fruit trees such as yellow-fleshed oranges, green-skinned grapefruits, and sugar oranges. Due to the suitability of the soil and climate and proper care according to technical procedures, the company's fruit tree area has developed well. To date, 70ha have been harvested, including 8ha of green-skinned grapefruits and 62ha of oranges. In 2024, the company will harvest over 1,000 tons of various fruits, with revenue reaching 25 billion VND. Orange and grapefruit products are purchased by traders in Hanoi and the southern provinces at the farm.

In order to develop concentrated fruit growing areas in the direction of CNC, in recent years, Van Du commune has proactively accumulated and concentrated land, and coordinated with the Vietnam Academy of Agriculture to plan large-scale concentrated fruit growing areas to create conditions for CNC application in production, helping to increase productivity, output, and value on a cultivated area. The commune also focuses on calling for and attracting enterprises and cooperatives to invest in CNC fruit growing models. Currently, in the commune, there are 10 enterprises investing in growing fruit trees and applying CNC in production. Thanks to that, the commune has developed 500 hectares of fruit trees such as oranges, grapefruits, guavas, pineapples, dragon fruits, and jackfruit. Of which, the area of citrus trees is concentrated on over 200 hectares. Fruit tree varieties are suitable for the soil and climate, so they grow well, with an average yield of 45 to 55 tons/ha, and a harvest output of over 22,000 tons. According to calculations, 1 hectare of fruit trees brings in revenue of 300 to 400 million VND. Currently, some advantageous fruit tree products of the commune have been recognized as 3-star OCOP products.
