Over the past two decades, the image of Mr. Vo Van Tat (86 years old) in Bay Ngan town, Chau Thanh A district, Hau Giang province has become a beautiful symbol of kindness and sharing spirit. People here often call him by the affectionate name "charity Mr. Tu".

Born and raised in the countryside, Mr. Tu always understood the hardships of his fellow countrymen. Despite his old age and declining health, he still maintained a simple lifestyle and a deep compassion.

About 20 years ago, realizing that the locality still had many families in very difficult circumstances, whose main jobs were working for hire, selling lottery tickets, or being too old to work, Mr. Tu decided to organize free rice distribution, sharing with the poor households and has maintained it until now.

In recent years, witnessing the muddy roads and difficulty in traveling for the people, he decided to donate part of his family's land to expand rural roads and build bridges to make it more convenient for the people.

Recalling his bold decision, Mr. Tu shared: “In the past, the roads here were muddy, people had difficulty traveling, trade was limited, and business was difficult. I organized and donated my land, mobilizing people to join in building the road, and my family supported the cost of the road construction.”

Not stopping at donating land, he also spent his own money and mobilized the community's support to build two solid bridges, helping people travel more conveniently and safely.

Thanks to the solidarity of the people, a rural road more than 3m wide and more than 1km long has been formed. The bridges named “love” have also become the pride of the people here.

When asked about his own “philosophy”, Mr. Tu smiled kindly and said: “I donate land to build roads and bridges. Many people also say that land can be sold for billions, so why don’t I sell it to enjoy my old age? But for me, billions of dollars will eventually be spent. Only this act of kindness and merit will last for my children and grandchildren.”

That simple yet profound saying touched the hearts of many people, strongly spreading the spirit of mutual love in the community.

Mr. Le Viet Hung (Bay Ngan town, Chau Thanh A district) shared: “In this neighborhood, when mentioning Uncle Tu, everyone knows that he has a tradition of doing charity work since he was young. Everyone respects and admires his meaningful work.”

Up to now, even though he is nearly 90 years old, Mr. Tu has not stopped his charity journey. Every month, his children send money back home, and he and his wife use a portion to buy rice, necessities, and support the charity kitchen to help disadvantaged patients and lonely elderly people in their hometown.

Over the past 20 years, Mr. Tu has given away hundreds of tons of rice for free. On average, each year, he organizes more than 10 rice distributions for families in difficult circumstances, and also gives necessities and money to those who are sick but cannot afford treatment.

The noble actions of Mr. Tu not only contributed to changing the face of the countryside and supporting the poor, but also aroused profound human values, becoming a shining example for many generations to follow.
