According to Insider, Mr. Liang did not need to go to college because he already had a materials business and was a millionaire. However, he always cherished the dream of going to college.

" It's frustrating to think that I can't go to college. I really want to go to college and become an intellectual," Mr. Liang said. To do that, Mr. Liang needs to take China's annual college entrance exam.

Mr. Liang began taking the exam in 1983, when he was 16. He was forced to drop out for about a decade because the exam was limited to those under 25. However, he resumed the exam in 2001 when those restrictions were lifted.

To beat the 13 million high school students who also took the exam, Mr. Liang said he lived an ascetic life for several months before the exam and studied 12 hours a day. However, the millionaire still failed, falling 34 points short of the Sichuan province's minimum score to enter any university.

Before I got the results, I had a feeling that I wouldn't get enough points to get into a good university,” said Mr. Liang.

After trying and failing for 40 years, Mr Liang is now unsure whether to take the exam again. " It's hard to say whether I will continue preparing for next year."
