Presenting war relics to martyrs' relatives

21 relics are documents and files related to the Pho Binh Revolutionary Base, the Song Huong Special Forces Regiment of Military Region 9, and the Rung Sac Special Forces Regiment 10 - which were returned to the relevant units and families by the University of Texas, USA, through the Vietnam Association for Supporting Families of Fallen Soldiers, contributing to easing the pain of families whose relatives died or went missing during the war.

On the occasion of the 78th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs Day (July 27, 1947 - July 27, 2025), on the afternoon of July 27, in Ho Chi Minh City, the Vietnam Association for Supporting Families of Martyrs, the Southern Representative Office, the Ho Chi Minh City Association for Supporting Families of Martyrs coordinated with the University of Texas, USA to organize the presentation of War Remnants Files to relatives of martyrs related to the Pho Binh Revolutionary Base, Song Huong Special Forces Regiment, Military Region 9, and Rung Sac Special Forces Regiment 10.

Speaking at the program, Colonel Dang Danh Hung, Executive Committee Member, Head of the Organization and Policy Committee of the Vietnam Association for Supporting Families of Martyrs, shared: The war has been over for more than half a century, but today, many families of martyrs still yearn to find information, remains of martyrs, or even just a little information, souvenirs of the places where martyrs fought and sacrificed.

Therefore, the University of Texas, USA - through the Association for Supporting Families of Vietnamese Martyrs, the Southern Representative Office, the Association for Supporting Families of Martyrs in Ho Chi Minh City - handing over documents and achievements of revolutionary units, bases and Vietnamese martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the resistance war to liberate the nation, unify the country, and bring peace and freedom to the people - is truly a meaningful activity, contributing to putting aside the past of a fierce and painful war, and coming together to do good deeds.

Colonel Dang Danh Hung hopes that the 21 relics, which are documents, handwritten letters, diaries, and personal papers of Vietnamese soldiers related to the Pho Binh Revolutionary Base, the 10th Rung Sac Special Forces Regiment, the Huong River Special Forces Regiment of Military Region 9, and the martyrs' families, handed over by Texas Tech University, USA on this occasion, can also be important clues to help find the martyrs' remains, bringing peace to the families after decades of waiting.

Pho Binh Restaurant (7 Ly Chien Thang, Ho Chi Minh City) is the Headquarters of F100 of the Saigon Special Forces, an important base in the 1968 Mau Than General Offensive. This is the Forward Command Post of Division 6, Saigon - Gia Dinh Special Zone. This is where many firepowers such as B40 guns, AK47 guns, rifles, grenades and explosives were gathered to prepare for the General Offensive to attack the US Embassy and the headquarters of the Saigon government. Currently, this place has been recognized by the State as a national historical relic.

The Huong River Special Forces Regiment of Military Region 9 is one of the main units, fighting in fierce battlefields since 1964, in difficult and arduous conditions, suffering many losses, but has achieved many glorious feats.

Regiment 10 - Sac Forest Special Forces, established in 1966, is a force of the Southern Liberation Army, operating mainly in Sac Forest and Can Gio, on rivers, between the sea and Saigon. This unit carried out many daring battles on rivers, especially raids on warehouses, warships and waterways of the US Army and the Saigon government. The Regiment was honored by the Party and State with the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces, Company 5 was honored as a Hero twice.

Moved to receive back the documents and files related to the unit as well as himself, Veteran Pham Trung Mao, Veterans Liaison Committee of the Song Huong Special Forces Regiment, Military Region 9 said: "These souvenirs are historical stories closely associated with our unit during the years of fierce war - truly a priceless, sacred and meaningful gift for the unit and the martyrs' families"./.
