(Dan Tri) - Ho Chi Minh City proposed spending 237 billion VND to support tuition fees for public and private secondary school students according to the draft submitted to the City People's Council on the morning of December 9.
The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has just submitted to the City People's Council a draft of a special policy to support tuition fees for public and private secondary school students for the 2024-2025 school year.

According to the content of the proposal, from the 2021-2022 school year to the 2023-2024 school year, in order to promptly support, stabilize and share difficulties, reduce the financial burden on parents, students and people due to the impact of the Covid-19 epidemic, the City People's Council has issued specific policies to support tuition fees for all levels of education. Specifically:
In the 2021-2022 school year, 100% of public tuition fees will be supported with a total budget support of 604.5 billion VND.
In the 2022-2023 school year, the difference due to tuition fee adjustment will be supported with a total amount of VND 1,518.8 billion from the city budget.
In the 2023-2024 school year, the difference due to tuition fee adjustment for preschool and high school will be supported and 100% of tuition fees for secondary school will be supported with a policy implementation budget of VND 1,847 billion. Of which, the budget for tuition exemption for secondary school students is VND 1,108 billion (public: VND 1,042 billion, non-public: VND 66 billion).
After 3 years of implementing the tuition support policy, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee assessed that the policy is in line with the people's wishes, creating peace of mind and motivation for parents and people to have conditions to develop the economy and produce and do business to recover the economy after a long time of dealing with the epidemic; students can go to school with peace of mind and not have to drop out of school because of economic conditions and not being able to pay tuition fees.
In the 2024-2025 school year, tuition fees at all levels will return to the 2021-2022 level. According to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, tuition exemption is a necessary requirement, creating an impression and demonstrating Ho Chi Minh City's interest in education.
Currently, tuition fees for grades 6-9 in Ho Chi Minh City are 30,000-60,000 VND/month/student, depending on the group.
Group 1 is students from schools in Thu Duc City and districts 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10, 11, 12, Binh Thanh, Phu Nhuan, Go Vap, Tan Binh, Tan Phu, Binh Tan, charged 60,000 VND/student. Group 2 is students from Nha Be, Hoc Mon, Can Gio, Cu Chi, Binh Chanh, charged 30,000 VND/student.
The total estimated budget for exempting public tuition fees and supporting private tuition fees is 237 billion VND.
