The City Center for Disease Control (Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health ) has just reported on classroom hygiene and hand hygiene monitoring in 2024.

The Center will monitor 95 schools, with 3,355 classrooms and functional rooms (3,037 classrooms, 298 IT rooms and physics - chemistry - biology practice rooms) from September 23, 2024 to November 27, 2024.

The results are as follows: 27/95 schools met lighting standards, accounting for 28%; 17/95 schools met noise standards (accounting for 18%).

The report also said schools located near traffic routes or gyms near classrooms had noise levels higher than permitted standards.

27/95 monitored schools have CO2 concentrations that meet the requirements, accounting for 28%. According to the report of the City Center for Disease Control, most schools use air conditioners but do not have exhaust fans. Therefore, the CO2 concentration is higher than the allowable standard.

According to survey results, 46/95 schools did not meet the requirements for all three criteria: light, noise and CO2 concentration in classrooms, at a rate of 48.42%.

Only 7/95 schools met the requirements of the above 3 criteria, a rate of 7.36%. Most schools only met 1-2 criteria.

Based on the results of monitoring schools in 2024, the City Center for Disease Control recommends that the Department of Education and Training, district and commune health centers and Thu Duc City coordinate to monitor classroom hygiene indicators of schools in the area every year.

"Schools need to increase lighting in classrooms that do not meet lighting requirements, increase air exchange in classrooms that do not meet CO2 concentration requirements, review and arrange enough hand washing taps according to regulations, soap and hand washing procedure charts" - the City Center for Disease Control recommends.

100% of schools have hand washing areas

According to the survey results, the majority of surveyed schools ensure hand washing facilities for students: 100% of schools have hand washing areas; 91% of schools meet the ratio of students/hand washing taps; 100% of schools have clean water in hand washing areas; 98% of schools have soap or hand sanitizer in hand washing areas; 99% of schools have hand washing instruction boards in hand washing areas.

98% of students have been informed about proper hand washing; The main sources of information about hand washing that students receive are: 80% from medical staff; 74% from the internet and social networks; 69% from homeroom activities; 65% from flag salute activities.

Among the media sources that students like the most is the talk under the flag, with 26% liking it. In particular, 97% of students agree that washing hands with soap regularly is very important to protect health; 91% of students agree that the habit of washing hands with soap should be practiced from a young age...

The old generation rarely suffered from myopia, but today the rate of children with refractive errors, especially among school-age children, is considered alarming.
