On March 17, My Tho City Police, Tien Giang Province, announced that they had issued a decision to prosecute and temporarily detain Nguyen Trong Ngan (41 years old, residing in An Hiep Commune, Ba Tri District, Ben Tre Province) for 2 months to investigate the act of "Fraudulent appropriation of property".

According to the investigation agency, on February 27, Tien Giang province authorities received a report from a woman about being scammed out of her property.

This woman said that through Zalo, she got to know and became friends with the account "Tuan Minh", then the two arranged to meet at a hotel room in My Tho city.

At the hotel, Ngan proposed to marry her and bought her a ring to gain her trust. After that, Ngan drove her to buy a real gold ring, then Ngan swapped it for a fake gold ring and gave it to her, then drove her to a shopping mall.

There, Ngan asked her to give him her phone and wait for him to park his car. Then Ngan drove away on his motorbike. After about 15 minutes, when Ngan did not return, she called a taxi back to the hotel and continued waiting.

By the afternoon of the same day, when Ngan had not contacted her, the woman realized she had been scammed and reported it to the police. She stated that the stolen property included a motorbike and a mobile phone worth more than 70 million VND.

At 4:30 p.m. on March 5, My Tho City Police coordinated with Chau Thanh District Police, Ben Tre Province to block and arrest Ngan in Chau Thanh District, Ben Tre Province. The task force seized 1 motorbike, 1 mobile phone and more than 80 million VND.

At the investigation agency, Ngan confessed that with similar tricks, he had committed two other frauds in Ben Tre province and Ho Chi Minh City.

Through verification by the investigation agency, Ngan had 4 previous convictions for "Robbery" and "Fraudulent appropriation of property".
