Mr. Lam said that as the former Vice Chairman of Cam Chinh Commune People's Committee, he soon realized the suitable conditions for developing livestock farming in the locality. After retiring under the regime, in 2024, he decided to invest nearly 2.8 billion VND to build a chicken farm in association with Japfa Comfeed Vietnam Co., Ltd. (abbreviated as Japfa Vietnam Company).

Accordingly, on his family's 0.7 ha area, he built a closed barn of 0.3 ha with an automatic cooling and ventilation system to control the temperature in the barn; automatic feeding troughs to adjust the amount of food suitable for each stage of chicken development. In addition, he also equipped a backup generator, built a waste treatment system and auxiliary works to serve the farming.

Thanks to thorough investment in barns and advanced farming techniques, his model ensures a scale of 16,000 pigs per litter.

According to Mr. Lam, when determining to raise livestock in a joint direction, it requires breeders to have a large initial investment capital, have a large land fund to build barns according to technical requirements; strictly follow the care process, hygiene and disease prevention and ensure no environmental pollution.

But in return, the advantage of this form of farming is high income and low risk because all stages of breeding, food, veterinary medicine, disease prevention vaccines, care techniques, and disease prevention and treatment for chickens are undertaken by the enterprise.

In particular, all products are guaranteed by the company, so there is no need to worry about output. During the raising process, if chickens show any unusual signs, the company will send technical staff to support, so farmers can rest assured.

According to Mr. Lam, raising chickens in a joint venture does not take much effort or time thanks to the closed farming process that ensures a good environment for chickens to grow and prevents diseases.

Specifically, instead of having to feed chickens by hand or using manual feeders, chicken feed is automatically distributed by the system into small feeders through sensors, helping chickens always be provided with enough food to grow and achieve high productivity.

To raise chickens safely and prevent diseases, Mr. Lam also invested in an automatic cooling and ventilation system to ensure that the farm temperature is always at 27 degrees Celsius, even in the summer. The floor of the barn is covered with a layer of biological bedding made of rice husks combined with microorganisms about 10 cm thick to ensure humidity and absorb odors. Thanks to that, despite raising a large number of chickens, Mr. Lam's chicken farm is still clean, dry, and has no unpleasant odors. After each batch of raising, this bedding is sold by him as organic fertilizer to those in need in the locality.

According to Mr. Lam's calculations, he currently raises 3 batches of 16,000 commercial chickens each year, with a raising time of 85 - 100 days and a harvest weight of 2.2 - 2.7 kg/chicken depending on the company's requirements.

When the chickens reach the required weight, Japfa Vietnam Company will purchase all the products and pay for the care of the chickens at a price of 6,500 VND/kg. Notably, in addition to the contracted output, the company will also purchase all the additional commercial chicken output, so after deducting expenses, he earns an income of 200 - 250 million VND/batch.

“Thanks to strict adherence to technical procedures, the chicken meat is fragrant and delicious. Before being sold, the company's technical staff always come to take samples to test for food hygiene and safety standards. If the standards are met, the company will purchase all of the chickens, so farmers are required to strictly follow the procedures set out by the business,” said Mr. Lam.

Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Cam Lo district, Nguyen Van Viet, affirmed that, in the face of the increasingly complicated disease situation in livestock herds, livestock farming in association with enterprises in the form of contract farming is the optimal model for livestock farmers.

This model not only solves the capital and technical issues, but also limits the risks of diseases and unstable prices. This linkage also helps farmers access advanced farming processes, ensuring bio-security and disease safety.

With the above advantages, Cam Lo District Farmers' Association is encouraging all levels of associations and farmer members in the district who have sufficient conditions to develop livestock farming in the direction of farms and family farms linked with enterprises in the direction of processing farming.

At the same time, it is recommended that in addition to economic benefits, livestock farmers need to accumulate experience and new technical advances from businesses to develop sustainable livestock farming.
