Another play inspired by 'Where is the Cai Ve Dau' by writer Nguyen Ngoc Tu

The original literary work "Where are you going, Oi Cai" has been adapted into many film and play versions, notably "Cai oi" by Nu Cuoi Moi Drama Theater and "Rau ram o lai" on Hoang Thai Thanh Theater. Therefore, Bui Quoc Bao chose the image of a lottery troupe as the background for Mr. Hai Lan (Quang Tuan) to stay in on his journey to find his wife's lost stepdaughter. Lottery is a familiar cultural feature of the people of the South, from the city of Saigon to the river region, in a sense, it is also very suitable for the festival's theme " Southern Aspiration" .

The new change also makes the story no longer just the tragedy of the stepfather, but also the tragedy of the drifting lives - the fates abandoned by the harsh world. Each character has his or her own desires, seemingly stubborn and even foolish, but also pitiful because simple, rustic happiness is sometimes very far out of reach.

Tham (Kha Nhu) is afraid of poverty and does not dare to accept her father, so she has to wear a different mask when facing her fiancé. Bich (Phuong Lan), an abandoned child, always longs for a family with a lover to the point of being humiliated when her lie is exposed. The owner of a rice warehouse (Hong Trang), who is inherently kind-hearted, has to become cruel to prevent her son's homosexual relationship. Viewers may not agree with the characters' actions, but on one hand, they can sympathize with their reasons, with the values ​​and pain they pursue.

This is thanks to Bui Quoc Bao's simple storytelling and the natural, immersive acting of the experienced cast: Quang Tuan, Kha Nhu, Lan Phuong, Hong Trang, Huynh Phuong, Huynh Quy, Huu Dang, Lam Nguyen, Duong Thanh Vang... In addition, the comedy pieces are also promoted to help the play not be too heavy, focusing on the supporting characters instead of overusing them to break the emotions of the main characters. Thanks to that, The Old Man of the Lottery Group has a balance between tragedy and comedy, between meaningful and entertaining elements, not only suitable for competitions but also easy to approach the public.
