Failing in its attempt to "borrow" voters, President Macron's alliance seeks to prevent "stars from changing positions"

Báo Quốc TếBáo Quốc Tế02/07/2024

On July 1, French President Emmanuel Macron's centrist faction teamed up with a left-wing coalition to prevent the far-right from gaining an absolute majority in the National Assembly and taking control of the country's government.

According to information posted on the French Ministry of the Interior ’s website, in the second round, the top two candidates will naturally continue the race. However, because French politics is divided into three blocs, in many localities, after the first round of voting, there may be three or even four candidates who have enough votes to advance to the second round.

According to the ministry's assessment, the three-way contests will take place in 305 constituencies nationwide.

In order to prevent the RN party and its allies from gaining an absolute majority, other parties and alliances could accept the withdrawal of their candidates, if they come third, after the first round, thereby giving votes to the RN's opponents.

In the second round, the winning candidate is the one with the most votes.
