Thanh Hoa announces list of 506 fishing vessels at high risk of violating IUU fishing

In a peak period to combat illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing, the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has reviewed and announced a list of 506 fishing vessels at high risk of violating regulations against IUU fishing. At the same time, 55 vessels have been removed from the list of high risk violators.

Through the inspection and handling of fishing vessels violating regulations, in response to the task of combating IUU fishing, the Thanh Hoa Fisheries Sub-Department has coordinated with functional forces to review and summarize fishing vessels without fishing licenses, fishing licenses expired for 10 days or more; fishing vessels violating regulations on prohibited fishing areas, fishing areas on the list of fishing vessels at high risk of violating IUU regulations. At the same time, vessels that have overcome the above violations have been removed from the list of fishing vessels at high risk of violating IUU regulations.

On November 14, Thanh Hoa province announced a list of 506 fishing vessels at high risk of violating regulations against IUU fishing whose fishing licenses had expired for 10 days or more. At the same time, 55 vessels were removed from the list of vessels at risk of violation and 351 fishing vessels were added to the list of vessels at high risk of violating regulations against IUU fishing.

The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has sent a dispatch requesting the Fisheries Surveillance Department, departments, branches and units to strengthen patrolling, inspection, detection, prevention and strict handling of fishing vessels violating in Vietnam's waters. Especially fishing vessels of Thanh Hoa fishermen whose fishing licenses have expired are still participating in fishing in the waters of the provinces. It is requested that competent authorities strictly control the docking and departure of fishing vessels of Thanh Hoa fishermen, resolutely not allowing fishing vessels without full procedures, documents and equipment to go to sea for fishing activities. At the same time, provide and exchange information on cases of fishing vessels of Thanh Hoa fishermen violating in order to promptly coordinate handling.

Along with that, Thanh Hoa Fishing Port Management Board posted a list of fishing vessels at high risk of IUU violations at fishing ports: Hoa Loc, Lach Hoi, Lach Bang; notified the Fisheries Inspection and Control Teams at fishing ports when there are fishing vessels on the list of unloading aquatic products.

The Fisheries Sub-Department directed the Fisheries Inspection and Control Teams: Hoa Loc, Lach Hoi, Lach Bang to resolutely not issue export certificates to fishing vessels that do not have sufficient paperwork and equipment for fishing; advise competent authorities to strictly handle fishing vessels that violate regulations on combating IUU fishing.
